No Rebels in Melut, Akoka or Palouch Oilfields

May 20, 2015 (SSB)  —  Maj.Gen. John Ivo Mount also the Commissioner of Maban County which is close to Palouch oil field said the claims by the rebels that they have captured the oil fields is untrue.

“I am in Maban now and there is nothing taking place in terms of fighting. Maban, Adar, Palouch and Melut are calm. There is no fighting” said Mounto.

“Our forces are in those places claimed to have been captured. There is nothing like that. Capture what? Capture what?” he aggressively stated.

Meanwhile, the SPLA Spokesperson Col. Philip Aguer Panyang said in regards to fighting in Malakal that the situation still remains intense as fighting is still on-going between the government forces and the rebels.

Peter Hoth Tuach, State Spokesperson while speaking from Melut County said the town of Malakal is still being contested by the warring parties adding that in the North of Melut County where the oil facility is there is no fighting.

Daniel Yor Akech, Former Commissioner of Akoka County confirmed that there were a number of shelling in Akoka and areas around it including the headquarters Bianythiang but all attempts have been repulsed.

“Anakdiar, Bianythiang that are claimed to have been captured by rebels is a total lie and propaganda. Our people are still now in Akoka, Panomdit. They only shelled the town while on the other side of the Nile” said Yor.

“If they had captured Akoka, would Commander Gen. Johnson Gony Beliu be in Akoka? That is a big lie. They should not be fabricating lies on the internet about that. They are only in Malakal” said Yor.

“Let them be honest, it is only Malakal where they are in no other places” he added.

The rebels have claimed that they have captured Akoka, Bianythiang town, Adar, Melut and Palouch oil field after having captured Malakal Town on Saturday from the hands of the government forces.

Palouch is located in Melut County of Northern Upper Nile State where the only oil operating facility is
