FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 30, 2015 (SSB) —The office of the Governor of Unity State, today congratulated Gen. James Gai Yoach and his forces, under the platform of South Sudan Defense Forces, SSDF, for rejoining the Government of the Republic of South Sudan.

The arrival of Gen. Gai and his commanders in Juba is, yet another dramatic indication that, Riek Machar and his friend Taban Dengs’ bid, to change a constitutional government through armed violent has collapsed. Millions of our gallant Nuer people have now comprehended that these two leaders have nothing other than trading their sacred blood for positions and wealth.

The Office of the Governor on behalf of the people and government of Unity State welcome this heroic decision and urge the ex-SSDF leaders to work for peace, reconciliation and healing in our country. They must begin this noble journey today and not tomorrow so that our people abandon the deplorable conditions in UNMISS camps across the country.

The Office of the Governor also take this opportunity to appeal to the sons and daughters of Unity State wandering in our jungles under wishful thinking that they will defeat the government that, it’s time to rejoin your brothers and sisters in government so that we return our country to its glory days.

The use of force to change a constitutional government is unlawful and undermines our hard won peace and security. You must therefore come back and focus your energies on rebuilding your social lives and well being.

The government of Unity State also noted that the current war was prompted by local problems that require local solutions. We therefore throw our unwavering support to the current home-grown approach being undertaken by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to bring this deadly conflict to a dignified end.

As we are about to mark the 4th Anniversary of the proclamation of our independence, the people and government of Unity State wishes the people of South Sudan in the country and around the world happy Independence Day. We hope that the next anniversary will be celebrated in a peaceful, united and prosperous Republic of South Sudan.

Thank you

Mayen Benson Nirew
Press Secretary, Office of the Governor,
Unity State-Bentiu, Republic of South Sudan.
