Policeman Kills Wife, Four Police Officers In Juba

 By our reporter

At least five people, including police officers, were killed in Juba on Sunday when an unidentified gunman refused orders for his arrest following a fatal family feud.

The unknown police officer, reportedly attached to emergence mobile unit of the police, the 777, killed his wife and three others in Lologo suburb at midday on Sunday. A sustained random shooting, lastedfor several hours, caused tension as residents scampered for their lives. Many thought that war had broken out again.

“There was a family dispute and the police officer killed his wife and ran to the nearby bushes,” said a Lologo resident, only requesting to reveal his first name, John.

John said officers pursued the suspect in his hideout.

“He turned his gun against the police and we are told that four officers were killed and four injured,” he said.

The gunman was later shot dead, bringing the death toll, according Lologo residents, to six. The Nation Mirror newspaper could not independently verify this figure.

Police used heavy artillery and caused panic in the city.” John said.

The midday shooting reminded the suburb of December 2013 fierce battle at the onset of the conflict. There is no known motive for the family dispute that resulted to the firing. Efforts to reach police spokesman, Monday Enoka, were not immediately successful as he did not return our repeated calls.
