Gay Rights Are a None Issue to Hundreds Millions of Africans

August 3, 2015 (SSB)  —  No one exactly knows the origins of the so-called gay rights. In fact the word gay used to mean being merry before it was corrupted to mean somebody who is attracted to another person of the same sex.

Perhaps the starting point may be the ancient Sodom as told in the bible. According to the bible, the ancient people of the above land led depravedly immoral life that displeased the creator and were burnt all to death except Lot with his family Genesis Chapters 18 and 19. This is where the term sodomy originates and it means sexual relationship between man and animals or man to man.

These days, America and the rest of the white world are now the champions of all the human rights including gay rights.  They think that it’s their moral duty to sell those rights to the rest of the world with pomp and fanfare.

Nowhere on the African continent has the issue of gay rights came in to fore and caused public outrage than in Kenya between barrack Obama and Uhuru Kenyatta. While President Obama claimed that rights are just rights before the law, Kenyatta countered that gay rights in particular are a nonissue for Kenya and may be the rest of Africa except South Africa. The South African parliament thought that the country had suffered enough under apartheid and other forms of discrimination and couldn’t afford not to accord freedoms to various groups or individuals as per national constitution. The parliament therefore passed a Constitution free from various forms of discrimination in 1994 when the great Nelson Mandela was about to become president of free Republic of South Africa.

The position taken by South Africa is a hard sell view to many other African countries. Some of these countries are very conservative and some are hard core Islamic nations which sentence to death such kind of behaviour as gay tendencies. Had president Obama raised the issues of gay rights in Cairo during his visit in 2009 he would have been answered in disgust. Gay rights for all Muslims are a red line.

Yes the western world most of the time comes up with something new such as western education, democracy, Christianity and certain human rights for the benefits of humankind. However, the advent of gay rights which are celebrated there in court wins and gay pride parades are going too far and will not be taken up around the world with no fight of some sort.

Some Africans particularly leaders are already up in arms against the west on the ICC or International Criminal Court claiming that it targets Africans. For time being, most of Africa is up against gay movement and some strict legislation is passed against to suppress the gay movement and its rights.

The Ugandan government passed legislation last year against gay movement and the west threatened to withhold aid and impose sanctions as a result. In the face of this threat, the government of Uganda stood firm. The Ugandan president asked American scientist to declare whether there exists a single or combination of genes that caused people to be gay. None was found to exist and the president signed the anti-gay legislation into law.

In 2005 an Israeli activist stabbed to death scores of people on a gay parade. He repeated the same in year and this shows that it is not only Muslims who are opposed to such behaviour but also people of different religious heritages like Judaism and others.

The American gay rights also have critics at home. One American preacher asserted that God will be sorry for Sodom and Gomorrah if what is currently taking place in America is true. The honourable man of God generated many enemies from the gay community because of his sermon. This is the nature of this world. If you tell the truth you will be in for it or bear the consequences. It is not only humans who have turned on each other in the art of love on the American European continents; people are also in love with animals there. You won’t miss people sleeping with goats and donkeys in the land of the sunset. There are dedicated parks for that purpose.

The American dream was to own your own house. This has been upgraded these days and their current dream is homosexual love or fall in love with people of the same sex. Same sex couple is now the norm even in churches in the western world. It is also not uncommon that you will witness older people coming out of opposite sex relationships and into same sex marriages. Their claim for doing so is that they were lost and or are coming to terms with their true nature!

Gay marriage was resisted from time immemorial in the Christian church until recently when Christ receded and gay pastors are ordained. We have women and gay pastors and bishops in the Anglican Church. This is about to be a reality on the African Continent full circle.

The antithesis of gay rights is grasped in this legal battle. Two lesbians or “women-friends” got married in Australia but as usual they long to have a child which was not forthcoming. The logic is how can same sex couple procreate? To solve this problem, those lesbians tricked a man to sire a child to be their child and they will care for him/her as parents. Realising that the trick would boomerang, the man sought guarantees and one of the lesbians who pretended to be a man or would be “father” assured that “he” would take care of the baby together with the mother. Ok, the man agreed and went to bed with the woman.

Years later a legal battle arises. The lesbians argued in court that they wanted the biological father to take responsibility for the child. Eh, have you cheated me in the daylight? Said the biological father? You said that you were the real father and you were truly and legally a married couple and the only thing you were unable to do was to sire a child. Nevertheless, the court agreed that the true biological father was the man who went to bed with the woman full stop.

The treatment of the Africa Americans brings to question human rights the US government preaches across the world. Fresh memories on how African Americans are treated less in term of law abound. The killing of Trayvon Martin and many other black people that followed shines a bad light on the American human rights. In other words Americans try to shine abroad but the picture at home is completely different. This week the African Americans are matching from Selma to Washington, a repeat of what late Martin Luther King Jr. did in the 1960s.

No one doubts that the USA is a great nation on the face of the universe but it is losing its moral compass in an attempt to satisfy narrow interests of every group that emerges and claim certain rights under the American constitutional and statutory laws. The USA wants to be everything to every people.  And for that reason it has chosen running around the world with its stick and carrot in ways that baffle most.

In return, it is demonised and fiercely opposed not only by the Islamic world but also by other religious communities across the globe. The creation of Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Al Shabab and other plethora of opponents hitherto collectively known as terrorists act as a counter to the big brother assumption.
