”Until the Lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter”-Chinua Achebe.

October 27, 2015, (SSB) — Once upon a time, there was a skillful hunter whose life was always revolving around hunting for a living and for a recreation as well. One day when he was in deep thick jungle as usual, he came to contact with Koor- human-eater and so he ran away for his dear life.

While the human-eater was chasing him, a buffalo bull saw the human-eater and thought he would come to harm his youngsters and so he started chasing after him too. The hunter was about to lose stamina and so he climbed on the tiptop of a tree. Then, the human-eater   was also afraid that a buffalo bull would catch up with him and kill him, he climbed on the same tree as well and sat at the middle of the tree’ branches and buffalo bull stood under the tree.

The buffalo was waiting for a human-eater under the tree and the human-eater was waiting for buffalo to leave so that he could eat the hunter as he was on the tiptop of the tree and there was a zero chance for him to escape. The human-eater was anxious for the buffalo bull to leave and the poor hunter does not want the buffalo to leave sooner.

To make the matter worst, the human-eater, started to poke the man with jokes and threatening that he will for sure eat him if the buffalo bull leaves. The human-eater bothered and terrorized the hunter a lot, and so the hunter man smelt the danger and the fact that he would eventually fall a victim of his own cowardice if he fail to act appropriately before it’s too late.

In few minutes, the buffalo started to feel hungry and so he goes to nip some grass and come back quickly before a human-eater could escape! However, the hunter gained courage and took in a deep breath and waited until the buffalo bull was under the tree. While the scary human-eater was staring the buffalo downward, he pulled out his sharp spear and stabbed the human-eater and pushed him so hard until the human eater fall into the buffalo horns.

The buffalo bull with disbelief gored the human-eater until he made sure is dead. As the buffalo bull was busy getting rid of human-eater, the hunter got off from the tree and waited somewhere until the buffalo finished his job then he emerged and cut off the human-eater‘s or the lion tail and took it home.

The hunter was given a hero reception at home because killed the lion and because was a well-known as a brave hunter; so he was praised by the whole community. On other hands, because of inpatient of the human-eater, he did not eat the hunter on the cliff of a tree but he lost his life.

This hunter was a man of numerous victories and heroism; In addition, no one eats lion meat in this community, as a result no one bothered to double check where the lion’s body is laying in the jungle.

In fact people were busy celebrating his braveness for killing the lion and cutting off his tail. Ululations and chanting could be heard all over the village’s corners from far- east to the farther west and from the deep- south to the north end. “Anguen ci dhaau aci ben cam”
