Hon. Michael Makuei announces 'an attempted coup' on SSTV in Juba on December 16, 2013. If I had accepted the job, I would also be in public minds as spreading such propaganda against some political individuals. I had written against that!

Nov. 21, 2015 (SSB) – South Sudan army, the SPLA, raided a training camp of suspected attackers of a passenger bus on Juba – Nimule road on Friday, information minister Michael Makuei said.

The attackers killed three passengers and four truck drivers on Thursday in ambush near Moli, about 50 km from north of Nimule. The Ugandan’s owned Friendship coach was traveling to Uganda when it was attacked.

“The SPLA pursued the rebels and attack their camp this [Friday] morning but we are still waiting for more details,” said Makuei, speaking to reporters after the council of ministers meeting on Friday in Juba.

Minister Makuei said defense minister Kuol Manyang Juuk briefed the ministers about the raid on rebels’ camp during the meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir on Friday.

“These are rebels of SPLM IO under the command of Martin Kenyi,” he added, referring to the armed opposition group led by Riek Machar.

The government and SPLM IO signed an agreement in August but series of ceasefire violations continued to be reported in Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile states. SPLA said the attacks on Nhial-diu in Unity state and Maar in Jonglei were planned by the rebels, allegations strongly denied by the armed opposition.

The attack on Juba—Nimule highway has not been claimed by the SPLM IO and SSB could not independently verify the government’s claim.

The commando unit of the SPLA reportedly pursued the attackers to Opari, east of Juba – Nimule highway and laughed a surprise attack on the armed men, dispersing them and captured their base.

Information minister Makuei said details on casualty figure remain unclear but promised reporters for an update soon.
