February 10, 2016 (SSB)  —  Governance consist of distribution of powers among institutions of government, the legitimacy and authority of states institution the rules and norms that determine who holds powers and how decisions are made about the exercise of authority relationships to accountability among staffs official or agencies.

The ability of government to make policies manage the administrative and fiscal affairs of the state and deliver goods or services and the impact of institutions and polices on public welfare. There is societal acceptance of corruption. We live in a country where thieves are made of kings and good people are regarded as fools. Those who have stolen public funds awarded traditional title and even national honors.

A weak legal systems leaves room for business as usual as cases on corruption drag on for as long as possible. Respect for human rights rank high among citizens expectation, but are low in international standards. Social services and amenities are needed of restoration. Not so much at the amenities possessed by rich South Sudanese minority. Access to water is not guaranteed transportation systems are not in good shape our buses and ambulance are moving coffins for accidents.

Facilities and access to health care services in government or public hospitals are nothing to showcase in fact for ordinary, power supply remain nightmare, our roads are rotting and our public education system is in shambles. Obviously, expectations of South Sudanese of good governance are not being met from the government.

There are three cores reasons why it is critical that young people engage with governance process. Firstly, there is a significant intrinsic value in upholding young people’s rights to participate in decision that affect them. Young people articulated cross several international human rights convention including the international convention on political and civil right article 12 of United Nation Convention on the Right of Participation and Elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

Secondly, there is an instrument values in young people engagement in governance due to the value they provide in improving policy and program outcomes.

Thirdly, there is further instrument value in young people engagement due to ongoing rewards of developing active citizens who can play key role today in improving overall development gain nationally and globally and who can become more active and participative adult to secure future improvement.

Conclusion

To achieve this transformation, we need to ensure that girls and women, boys and men are the Centre of this process. Good governance is the centerpiece of inclusive development. Democracy without involving youth will crumble. Youth need to be mobilized and proactive. Change starts from within and a shift mindsets is necessary to move youth.

Currently 80% of South Sudanese are below 35 years old. That mean that young people have power to actually making things happen
