Egypt’s government wants to support Sudan and South Sudan even after the United Nations commission has ended its mission there, as it is keen on preserving stability and security in the two countries, a Foreign Ministry source has said.

The source said Egypt participates in the development of Sudan and South Sudan through the joint United Nations and African Union (UNAMID) operation. It said Egypt contributes with police and army troops, and through bilateral cooperation means, by exchanging expertise.

The source explained that the Egyptian UNAMID troops were on a peacekeeping mission, and that they started to return home on 16 August after the implementation of the peace treaty between Sudan and South Sudan.
