H.E. Dr. Kiir meets UK minister for International Development

WASHINGTON, 16 December 2011 – The President of the Republic H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit in the margins of the IEC meetings, yesterday evening in the Presidential Suite at the May Flower Renaissance Hotel in Washington D.C. met with the United Kingdom’s minister for International Development Hon. Stephen O’Brien.

The meeting discussed ways forward for how best the UK as a member of TROIKA can contribute in delivering services to the people of the new nation of South Sudan. Besides that, the meeting centered on some of the continuing issues of security and the high level dialogue which took place in the IEC about accountability, transparency and corruption.

Shortly after the meeting, Hon O’Brien told the press that his country’s government is very supportive of the new state and will continue to build a good partnership with South Sudan. He sent a verbal message to the people of South Sudan that they now have a wonderful opportunity of building their new country and making use of the numerous potentials of the country in a rightful way. He asserted that the world is confident that the newest nation will improve the security and deliver good services to its people.
