Ethiopian army captures Jonglei spiritual leader – SPLA says

June 26, 2012 (BOR) – South Sudan’s army says a spiritual leader who fled disarmament in Jonglei state to neighbouring Ethiopia has been captured along with 200 others today. Kuol Diem, who heads the 15,000-strong disarming forces in Jonglei state, says the spiritual leader was “a factor of insecurity” in the state. The self-proclaimed spiritual leader, Dak Kueth, fled to Ethiopia in March when the civil disarmament commenced in the state, according to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).

Machar urges former rebel leader to surrender his forces to the SPLA

June 26, 2012 (JUBA) – A former rebel leader who recently declared his intention to rejoin the government of South Sudan has been urged to expedite the process of surrendering his forces to the national army, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA). Tong Lual Ayat, leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in May declared he was abandoning the rebellion and reported himself to Juba to process the reintegration of his soldiers into the army.
