China earmarks $43m for S. Sudan’s mining sector

The Chinese government has earmarked $43m to conduct a geological study in South Sudan as the country plans to diversify into other sectors of its oil-rich economy. This was revealed Monday by the Ma Qiang, the Chinese ambassador to South Sudan at a news conference held in the capital, Juba Qiang, accompanied by the petroleum and mining minister, Stephen Dhieu Dau, also said plans are underway by the Chinese government to support the young nation in developing the road, power and agricultural sectors of the country.

South Sudan News: New Roads, All-Terrain Trucks Will Integrate the Region

The South Sudan News (SSN) reports that experts are pressing for opening alternate transportation routes from Nigeria to East Africa and using high-mobility all-terrain trucks in order to overcome the absence of quality roads all over the region. A recent Reuters report showed how much the development of East Africa, especially of the South Sudan, is hampered by the shortage of quality roads.
