Nothing in our historied conscience would justify the UN trusteeship of South Sudan. Nothing in the recorded history of UN administration around the world would suggest that the UN would be any better than our present leadership.
Nothing in the Rwandan genocide compelled the UN to babysit that country in 1994. Nothing in the wanton killing in Darfur warrant the UN to claim trusteeship over the Sudan.
The UN and their local version, UNMISS, haven’t officially broached this subject and yet it is everywhere of late. So where is this idea coming from? Someone putting out the feelers….testing the waters?
The idea is insulting to South Sudanese people and should be condemned by all sides…the rebels and the gov’t, the G-11 and the opposition parties in Juba, and particularly the western-funded local NGOs and civil society bodies who seem to be fast falling for the bait.
