An Effects of Unemployment on South Sudan Economy

February 4, 2015 (SSB) — Unemployment means being out of job or a situation where the individual is willing to work but has none. This had severely rested on South Sudanese youths as most of the productive generation were left unemployed by their politicians whom some of them turned rebels, a move youths considered as scapegoat from Justice, when their impunity was lifted and prone to prosecution. These effects of unemployment on our economy brought about the following;
Unemployment in South Sudan had led to huge financial costs as the country’s huge population is unemployed hence unable to pay taxes in large scale which the government would have directed into developmental activities. It has been to no avail, for many government officials since 2005 failed to meet the reasons why South Sudanese scarified their lives for more than five decades.
Therefore, our nation not only has to deal with the lost income and decreased production but also with additional cost.The spending power of an unemployed person and his/her family decreases drastically as they would have nothing to spend which and in turn affects the economy adversely.
Increase spending power of the employed as research indicate that 75% of South Sudanese are Nilotic speaking group, a group whom its behavior encourage high rate of dependency making the few working class to over spend their income on the huge and needy relatives . Investment opportunities on other hand are compromised due to overspending of the incomes .
South Sudan’s economy has been plunged into recession which had increase rates of unemployment and had significantly affected other economic factors, such as: the income per person, health costs, quality of health-care, standard of leaving and poverty. World bank and other developmental Institutions had warned South Sudan about increase of rate of poverty which is the main caused of the failed economy.
The question we should ask, is whether to remain with our dwindling economy or we do something about it, I believe no one would want to remain in such an economy but no one knows how to do it, this dilemma of not growing our economy justified my claim on the 10 reasons why Dr Lual Acuek would be our savior to our dwindling economy.
