September 10, 2015 (SSB)  —-  Weddings are western culture, which have the greatest significance to the marrying couples, family members and their friends.

In Dinka traditions and other traditions, weddings are conducted in form of traditional ceremonies, which is different to the Western weddings.

In many people’s minds, weddings ceremonies are considered to be ceremonies whereby attendees will have fun, meet friends, and cheer up newly-weds. And in addition, as a great time and an opportunity to congratulate the couples on their big day ‘WEDDING NIGHT ‘ as a sign of happiness.

Happiness is everything for some reasons. As it is heard/spoken that money cannot buy you happiness. But it can buy you a boat and a truck to pull it. Happiness between two couples may not always be the greatest. But it can be the most greatest when there is a symbol of love and trust.

Eight months ago, I was honoured by Aloung Gai Angeth to be among his selected best men in his wedding party. It was the greatest privilege I enjoyed until to the end on 5th September 2015.

On the 3rd September 2015, I flew to Melbourne, Australia in the evening. In that evening, we were going to attend what is called “Hinna” party night. I have had heard about the party before, but I have never attended any single one before. That evening, we were (best men and bridesmaids) to meet again. I was worried about getting to know each of them because reshuffling was done after the engagement party, so it was likely that I may end up with someone I haven’t met before. And indeed it did happen.

This “Hinna” party was tremendously famous. We were indebted to Panchol Deng Ajang, when he sang live one of his best songs to invite the groom and his bestmen into the hall. It is was a tremendous experience, just to mention. The hall was so packed like stranded customers at KCB bank (Kenya Commercial Bank) in Juba, waiting angrily in the queue to be served. Sweating like a frog as if the roof top was about to burst due to the forces of climate change or melt like a mountain of iceberg in the middle of Pacific Ocean.

In the hall, there was a mixed of noise as if a US Air Force B – 2 spirit has flown over the State of Victoria, Melbourne.  Attendees were filled with joy of happiness as if Jesus Christ has promised to come and meet them in two hours. It was hot inside as if the hall was a manufacturing foundry plant that melt and pour metals. That night, the hall temperatures were controlled by carbon dioxide and oxygen, which were exhaled or inhaled in the mix of   varieties of perfumes. It was unbelievable saga!

After the “Hinna” party, we were all looking forward to the big day. All were ready to bank (sacrifice) number of sleeping nights to get prepared and to be ready for the wedding party. Groom and best men were busy for two nights as if they were working for tips, sleeping only for 3 hours maximum.

On the wedding night, the groom and the bride were the most beautiful couples I have ever seen.  Best men blended into navy blue suits, the white shirts and the gold ties. These blokes were amazing. They put in whatever it took to make the wedding the greatest of all. Bridesmaids were wearing gold dresses. These babies were the most beautiful and second to none. The girls were best models of the night. They were strolling on the Red Carpet as if they were nominated for Oscar Fashion award night. Maid of honor and the best man were great too! It was the best wedding.

The wedding was the best wedding of the year. The best and a well-organised wedding. People who came to the wedding on 5th September 2015 got what they wanted, that was to have fun rather than being bored by long speeches.  Everyone was happy with the masters of ceremony from both sides for their tremendous role they have had played on that day.

I rated the wedding as 10 out of 10. So if you were in the wedding, what do you think?

Aloung Gai Angeth and Amaan Lueth Thiak were the greatest couples of the year.
