Your excellency,
SUBJECT: CONDEMNATION OF HIJACKING NEWLY CREATED STATE HEADQUARTERS
November 10, 2015 (SSB) — Following your recent bold and wise decision to create more states as a way of reaching out to the communities for faster delivery of services, Aweil East state with its headquarters clearly marked out as Wanyjok happened to be one of those lucky ones of this decree. Wanyjok as known to you and many others, has been hosting the county headquarters since 1993 when by then it was administered by Civilian Military Administration (CMA).
Your excellency, after the decree, Gen. Paul Malong and his cronies had been lobbying for the changing of the state’s headquarters from Wanyjok to his home village-Malualkon, which is roughly an hour away from Wanyjok. The community thought of this as a joke as the reasons put forward are dubious and illogical.
The 8th of November this year marked the saddest moment in our county as the Chief of General Staff convened a meeting in his home village instead of the county headquarters and invited only his stooges where they finally made this a secret no more.
We would not have objected to this move if the community was involved to decide together after all the mentioned locality is part of Aweil East County and deserves service delivery as well. However, our concern here is that, someone is taking the headquarters to his village simply because, he is powerful, rich and does not respect your orders.
We the community of the following areas (Apuoth-Pingdong section, Makuach Athian and Ajuongthii) in Abiem centre would like to vehemently condemn in the strongest terms possible this uncalled for decision to hijack the state’s headquarters without consulting the communities where it was to be situated. This action is barbaric, unpalatable, myopic and illogical.
We would like to bring into your attention our dissatisfaction with this move and urge for your immediate intervention to stop this madness. Furthermore, those that claim to be your staunch supporters and loyalists are the very people that stab you at the back. Among those that pushed for the change of the headquarters are undoing your decree and so we have the following recommendations:
Imploring you to warn those attempting to commandeer this act and stick to your presidential decree. If at all you are convinced by their argument and action, then, reverse your presidential decree from Wanyjok as the state headquarters to Malualkon.
