South Sudan: I Love Thee oh My Motherland!

By Liel Deng Liel, Juba- South Sudan

Though mindless of when the sky shall fall, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though fate and discouragement have replaced hope and courage, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though fear ties and entangles me, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though gunshots are friends of our ears, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though my brothers, sisters, grandfathers or mothers are butchered in cold blood because they are unable to run, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though my tribal identity is becoming a profound burden, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though am wreathing at a ruthless jaws of the hunger, I love thee oh my motherland,

Though am becoming an economic refugee, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though brother justice is long dead, I love thee oh my motherland;

Though my only and only hope (PEACE) is at the verge of collapse, I love thee oh my motherland.
