The state minister of local government and law enforcement agency in Gok state has kidnapped the wife of poor police sergeant at gun-point.

This is a serious matter that has raised high tension and we need urgent intervention before things get out of hand, the security between the two families is under threat as I speak.

May 2, 2016 (SSB)  —  The Minister of local Government and Law Enforcement Agency of Gok State Hon. Wel Machiek Majoor has kidnapped the wife of Poor Police Sergeant Mr. Arop Chikoch Marial who is currently working as Traffic Police Officer in Cueibet the Capital of Gok State. This happened on 27th of April 2016 at exactly 2 pm. when armed men about 20 of them stormed the house of the sergeant in his absent and picked the wife together with her kids and led them to unknown destination according to the eye witnesses. Nyibol Manyuang Makoi is believed to have been married to Sergeant Arop Chikoch for 12 years now with their 4 children.

One may wonder to why the sound minded Minister uses his executive powers to kidnap the wife of Arop Chikoch Marial who has never slept separately in a single day for 12 good years and the Minister was in Cueibet for those 12 years and he never showed any sign of behaving like a husband to Nyibol Manyuang Makoi who is currently the kidnapped wife of the Sergeant. Of Course, Mr. Wel Machiek uses his political power to undermine the weak people who do not have political muscles to respond to such situation when there is a call for it.

I want to go straight to why the Minister has done what he did, I must remind you that the kidnapped wife had long time ago married to the Minister and they officially divorced before the Court of law in 14 years back and this was how the sergeant got in after a serious of new agreement with the family of the lady and officially married her, therefore, the law and public knew Nyibol as the official and legal wife of Sergeant Arop.   What is clear is that Hon. Wel who has felt some sense of power after being appointed minister of local government has decided to misuse his executive powers to separate legally married couples.

I urge Gok State governor and any other law abiding citizen to intervene or else this might threaten our peace in the new state. I believe everyone is equal before the law and should be accorded the protection they deserve as our transitionally constitution puts it rightfully. Article 22 stipulates “The privacy of all persons shall be inviolable; no person shall be subjected to interference with his or her private life, family, home or correspondence, save in accordance with the law”.   According to the information we received on the ground is clear that the minister didn’t follow any law, he rather ordered armed men to forcefully take out the family of Arop and this is a clear definition of a kidnapping.

By taking someone’s wife without consent especially of the woman, it’s clear that not only has Minister Wel has violated the law, but also the right of a woman of free will and consent. Article 15 of the constitution clearly states that “Every person of marriageable age shall have the right to marry a person of the opposite sex and to found a family according to their respective family laws, and no marriage shall be entered into without the free and full consent of the man and woman intending to”

This is a normal custom in our society and we always abide by them and appreciate their importance. One week has passed and the family of Sergeant Arop Chikoch is still in darkness between the State Government and the police because the alleged kidnapper has the political power which he uses to threaten the law enforcers in the State.

The solution and the only option left in the hand of stranded family is to bring back the abducted wife in any possible mean whether there is a need for gun point or not will be the question of time and more urgent intervention is needed to rescue the situation before things get out of hand. The Minister of local Government is believed to be the Cousin to the Current sitting Governor of Gok State which has at the same time appointed him as the State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency.

If Mr. Minister is in charge of Law Enforcement Agency in the State and act as the Law breaker at the same time, then one might confuse to why the same Law that is use to give rights to the weak and helpless people is also use to deprived the rights and endanger the  lives of our citizens. This must be treated as total violation of human right; it is the clear attack on the freedom of Weak Family such as this case of the poor Sergeant. I conclude that caution must be watch carefully to help the situation before it becomes the problem of the two families and only the Governor can intervene between them.
