Governor Philip Aguer: “President Kiir’s order on Dinka cattle camps in Equatoria must be implemented”

June 3, 2016 (SSB) — President Kiir ordered removing Dinka community cattle from Greater Equatoria region is a strict order that must be implemented Jonglei state governor Philip Aguer Panyang made the ordered to the Chiefs to direct their Dinka Bor communities and youth to return their livestock back to Bor.

Jonglei state cattle are causing social disharmony with Equatoria communities forcing the host communities to arm themselves against cattle herders causing unnecessary instability amongst South Sudanese.

“This order must be implemented. Ask the youth to bring the cattle and children,” Governor Philip gave the order to the Chiefs while addressing them in an occasion for the harmonization and standardization of Greater Bor Customary law Saturday.

“I have discussed with Ali Juma Malou of Terekeka state. He assured me that those looted cattle will be returned,” Aguer told the Chiefs.

A boat loaded with goods from Juba to Bor was ambushed in place call Yarol of Gemeza county of Terekeka state in March. The driver who carried 6 bullets on his chest died on spot and the assistant driver was seriously wounded.

Earlier April, Dinka Bor 8 boats loaded with over 2000 herd of cattle women and children and cattle was attacked.

The governor of Eastern lakes state in February warned the cattle keepers in Jonglei state not to cross into Eastern lakes state with their cattle camps that are being repatriated from the Greater Equatoria region.

Eastern lakes state government plan civilian disarmament of armed youth in the area which dictates the movement of armed cattle camps there.
