John Garang University students sit for exams despite open strike by staff

June 9, 2016 (SSB) — The First Academic Semester Examinations are underway at Dr John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology despite declaration of an open strike by academic staffs last week. The examinations that started on Wednesday is expected to run for two weeks.

Last week, the staff of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and technology in Jonglei state said their strike shall never cease until their grievances are fulfilled by South Sudan government.

They promised to keep the university doors closed for the rest of the months until the conditions are met. The staffs were striking to be paid three months salaries, allowances.

Academic staffs of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of science and technology declined to make comments to the media before following the unexpected move on Wednesday.
