Candidates facing lack of power and reading materials in Bor, Jonglei

June 23, 2016 (SSB) — The secondary and primary schools candidates raised concern that they are facing lack of power and reading materials in Jonglei.
Achol Elizabeth form four candidates at Vine High school in Bor town she said that they slept at school but no light at all where they can be reading at night saying that they only reads during day time but they have suspended reading at night because no power.
If it will continue like this we may fail in the final exams and it will affect our studies she stressed.
Another form four candidates at Vine High school David Deng Bul said that south Sudan has its owned curriculum but no syllabus saying that their school now is teaching Kenya and Uganda syllabus where its make it difficult for them to perform well in the examination.
We students are suffering a lot some of us are very poor we cannot even provide ourselves with anything that can sustain you in your studies we don’t have cluster materials we are not well equip concern reading materials we cannot manage to buy a text and exercise books he explains.
He requested the government of South Sudan to provide them with the South Sudan syllabus to improve the quality of the education in the country.
Concerning light; to reads at night the school and South Sudan government are not yet to supply electricity we the students came together and agree that anything that you were using at home for reading either touch or anything else you use for reading at night so we have decided to come together we brought all the form of lights that we use in the various places all together and we put them in one place then we read together as we are waiting for the south Sudan electricity to be setup he narrate.
Elizabeth Aluel Kuol, class eight candidates in Bor A. Mix Primary school, said that they don’t have light at school where they can be reading in the night hours saying that the small light that they have it’s a generator it ran for one hour only which is not enough for them to study well.
Meanwhile; Makuech Samuel Reech, Director of Vine High School, said they are facing a lots of challenges in lacking of South Sudan syllabus he confirm that they use foreign syllabus which is difficult for them to teaches the students.
The issue of light is a bit challenging students are suffering they don’t reads at night they defend on day time hours which is not good to the candidates but we cannot blame the government of South Sudan because we have understand the situation that we are in and we are also new nation so may be some time coming we will be having our own electricity power station.
He appealed to the students especially candidates not to get discourage in a school because there is no light you need to keep struggle.
However; south Sudan doesn’t have electricity power station setup whereby they can supply the government offices, cities, residential, villages, hospitals and schools with the little been made by some individual and business communities they bought generators to supply government offices and shops.
Moreover the whole nation remained using generators.
