Biography of the Late Brig. Gen. Deng Kelei Chol

June 24, 2016 (SSB) — The Late was born as a 3rd child (2nd son) to Kelei Chol Nhial (Adol clan, Kolnyang payam) and Aluel Aluong Kur (Koch clan, Makuach payam) on 1st of January in 1962 in Adol Village, Gak Boma, Kolnyang Payam, Bor County, Jonglei State. He survived with three wives and fifteen (15) children and twelve (12) grandchildren.
He joined primary school in 1970 – 1976 in Bor and Renk Elementary School, and he then did Intermediate Education in 1977 – 1980 at Kongor Intermediate in Bor and secondary Education in 1980 – 1983 at Malakal Senior in Malakal, where he went back and had his Sudan Certificate in Malek Secondary in Bor.
He joined SPLA/M on 19th May 1983 and obtained his military training in Bonga, Ethiopia with Jamus Division. He was then commissioned to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant at Shield One and assigned to the GHQs of C-in-C.
He was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant and assigned as commander of Coy River in 1986
He got promoted to the rank of Captain and sent to Cuba for Military Intelligence Training in 1987, which he finished successfully. He was then assigned as Garrison Commander to Jebel Rahad. He then progressed to the rank of Alternate Commander in 1990.
He had let numerous of successful battles against Seif Al Ubuur Division of Sudanese armed Forces (SAF) around Juba between 1992 and 1994. He was a commander of three Task Forces of Operation Jungle Storm (OJS) in 1993 – 1994.
The Late then defected to Khartoum in 1995 after extrajudicial killing of Justice Martin Majier Gai and after mass arrest and torturing of Majier’s supporters in earlier 1994.
He was absorbed to SAF Batch 38th in 1995 at the rank of Captain and was subsequently sent to Army Cadet, Platoons, Companies and Military Intelligence Trainings in Jebel Awulia Military Cadres College, Jebet Military College and Khartoum Military GHQs in 1996, 1999 and 2001 respectively. He progressed to the rank of Brigadier in SAF in 2008. He was a founder of Bor Salvation Armed Armed Forces in 1996 which was in operation till 2005; after which the forces were absorbed to SPLA as per CPA Provisions.
The Late then rejoined SPLA/M in 2008 and was absorbed to the same rank of brigadier General and placed to the SPLA Reserve List.
The late was a commissioner of Bor County from 2003 – 2004. He never had a chance to accomplish University Studies after he joined SPLA/M in his Secondary School final School in 1983.
He has two sons who are now pursuing their Bachelor Degrees in Business Administration and banking and Finance in Khartoum, Sudan.
The late has two young brothers whom he supported until they obtained their Master Degrees in Literature and Law respectively. The two young brothers are now Lecturers in Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Bor and University of Juba respectively.
