Press statement from the Greater Yirol Youth Union

August 30, 2016 (SSB) — Greater Yirol community today took a golden chance to elects their new chairman Mr. Peter Mapour Makur from Yirol East County. Mapour who vigorously contested with his colleague Mr. Majok for the same post, narrowly won the election with 106 votes by taking the competing race impossible to his runner mate, Mr. Majok Makur who garner 95 votes. The race for the chairmanship “was just like a tag of war.”

Majok Makur after the elections, he without doubt came to public and appreciated and accepts his defeats and further says that he has respected the decisions of the voters as the democratic process. He further reiterated that “democracy is democracy” … the wish and opinions of public voters should be respected.

Bech George Anyak former commissioner of yirol west who was the guest of honour in the elections advised the new leader to prioritize fighting anti-social media behaviors such as blaming the government both of states and National level.

Former commissioner urged the youth to take education seriously because the “New state needs people with papers and agenda of development will never come out of blue” the state is waiting for you. Should you come on empty hands then, your chances are very limited to either insert tangible contribution or to think of getting employment.

The newly elected chairman acknowledges his predecessors and further told them that to achieve development, we must work together and cooperation I paramount in this race of leadership.

Greater yirol community who has attended elections several leaders including government officials led by Ambassador Chok Ayat and members from other states of south Sudan.

Ambassador Chok Ayat urged young people to maintain Greater yirol youth union status of being a social Union uniting people of Yirol rather than turning it into a political arena
