Open Letter to H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit: “It is not too late to revive the bilateral ties and mutual co-operations with the USA for the sake of upcoming generations”

By Emmanuel Ariech Deng, Juba, South Sudan

September 20, 2016 (SSB) — Some political analysts and observers have already expressed their disappointments and regrets of their open letters to you Mr. President! One of the writers actually said he is tired of defending President Kiir! But my case is different and the first of its kind; I will continue with the same spirit to avail my opinion support when it is necessary. Open letters generally, are part or parcel of advice of those who have no access to you in persons but might have better ideas of running the country and issues pertaining to possible solutions to the political crisis and a lasting peace.

Dear President, this open letter is meant to reserve the history of your presidency from slipping into a quagmire (“good beginning, bad ending”) that would automatically disregard previous achievements done by your government since the inception of interim period to independence and up-coming elections which are unpredictable. Mind u that, any leadership has an end no matter what! But what matters in most cases, is its legacy and impacts on the country’s people of both innocents and culprits.

It is not too late to revive your bilateral relations and oil explorations with the USA in a bit to abandon China who had been helpless in restoring the daunting economy, infrastructure, insecurity and development while in charge oil exports for too long now. Apart from USAID Nimule-Juba road, your eleven years in power had seen no tangible tarmac road development across the country, not even from Wau to Akon (your home village).

If US could not be your favourite choice, then go for another country who will give you peace of mind from the regime change fever, than sticking to China with mounting international pressure and regional turn of blind eye to your government that resulted to the suffering of Nation’s population since 2013 to date.

So there is no permanency in oil agreements, you can just try this and that until you get stable with one of the economic powerhouses in the world. It is not only me who understand that our allegiance to China in mutual interests resulted to the insurgency being faced today, insecurity threatening the lives of travellers to and out of all roads leading to Juba the capital. People stayed in Juba as trapped.

This political atmosphere is not healthy for the un-coming generations and should not exceed any farther to help sow more seeds of tribal hatred on the citizens and prolong the violence aggravated by the country political leaders, many of them from SPLM.

I hope you are aware of Dr. Majak D’Agoot ironical quotes during in his radio interview debate with Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin about SPLM party and its significance in national building in which he said, I quote “A cow can turn grass into milk but a separate process is needed for the milk to be turned into butter” the statement if critically analyzed, send a message that the failure of government should not be blamed on the ruling party but individuals from within the party and government.

To him, Kiir’s ruling capability is limited to attainment of Independence only not any other! But other SPLM cadres (Dr. Majak and Pagan Amum among them) believed that they are the real technocrats to turn milk into yogurt or butter. So this means, the SPLM members would not be the same again in the forth-coming elections whether early or lately. I would also like you to correctly determine your life after presidency not to fall into the hands of rivals from within and outside of party and country. Your humility is taken as an advantage to completely destroy your patience and God given historical ladder to presidency.

In a nutshell, change of mind toward Sudan-China friendship that preceded South Sudan as a third party to the oil agreement, should be abandoned if China intervention is just limited to the veto powers in the UNSC but fall short to be clear on economic, security, development and bilateral improvements.

The rampant and systematic corruption exercised by the people empowered by your own presidential degrees is also a bad omen to the country and the history of your presidency including the ethnicity you come from. So here, I proposed new approaches to our good friends who stood firmly with us during the dark days of the liberation of this country (the USA) that it is not right for us to let them down in time appropriate to acknowledge their contributions with long-term mutual co-operations in true brotherhoods and have our nation build alongside democratic principles and the rule of law.

It is equally true that China did not resettle any known number of South Sudanese refugees during war with Sudan, and they have just appeared of the recent (interim and independence era) as friends in need. The USA is leading among the countries that created new homes for South Sudan refugees (Lost Boys) followed by Canada and Australia. So, why are we abandoning them at this time? Can anyone be a good friend in bad times and only become a bad friend in good times? I do not think the hatred being circulated towards American people is to the interest of everybody but it just suit only those who do not need the prosperity for all and democratic governance.

Kindly survive your history with America Co-operations and democratic guidance!
