Journalists trained by Korean Contingents in Jonglei state

October 13, 2016 (SSB) — The Republic of Korea Horizontal Military Engineering Company ROK-HMEC has completed a month training of 11 Journalist selected from Jonglei state ministry of information youth and sport and secretariat general.
The journalists were trained on photo-video editing class applicable with press, TV and websites. The training focused on skill gaps TV journalism job-specific skills to complex organizational processes, with simple micro-learning videos that focus on one step at a time. The training also incorporates practically, how to report on TV as well as how to present news in the studio.
While addressing the journalist, the Commander of ROK-HMEC Col. Kim Byun Chun said impartial journalists can change the country objectively through their enormous power of writing that call for government intervention, NGOs and civil society organizations to address issues such as hunger, starvation, conflict, food insecurity, illiteracy and heath care.
Col. Kim urge the journalist to call on the relevant authorities to avert the aggravating state of affairs by published dozens of articles on the worsening political and economic situation in the country.
He said the authorities should respect the freedom of expression so that a lot of great thinking and many potentially journalism skills of South Sudanese writers would get to benefit the nation as of South Korea.

South Sudan has clear expression of opinion as stipulated in the constitution but the three media laws such as The Media Authority Act, The Right of Access to Information Act and The Broadcasting Corporation Act signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit have their implementation narrowed in some states.
Reporters without Borders ranked South Sudan as 125th out of 180 countries on its 2015 World Press Freedom Index, 6 positions down from the position the Country held the previous year (2014). South Sudan has been ranked 140thon the World Press Freedom Index, further 15 positions down from the rating it held in 2015.
But in state ranking index in terms of journalist performance because of free media environment Jonglei first ever appearance on the top for protecting journalist and freedom of expression earning itself the famous top position among the 28 states because none of the journalist has ever been reported killed or kidnapped in Bor.
In Jonglei state the situation for journalist is normal compared to Juba and other states of South Sudan. This year 2016, there are no reports of Journalists harassment by security forces. However given the background of public relation and media experiences of Philip Aguer administration, the journalists have transcended the state profile to another level.
