Obama’s Statement on US Recognition of the Republic of South Sudan, July 9, 2011.

November 11, 2016 (SSB) — Whichever way you face him or he faces you, Donald Trump wins. The majority of us outside America didn’t see it coming. How didn’t we?  And this world is pitched on what we either gain or lose in anything we do or don’t. Since his childhood, Donald Trump has watched and followed his wealthy father built on gains, which he(father) achieved it, whether in legitimate or in illegitimate way, whether in peace or in violence. In our right minds, we never took this seriously:

”I always win in anything I want”, he said.

Now we have believed him. Politics is unpredictable, but not as bad as in Donald Trump’s politics. So, why didn’t we give up long time ago? Why did we rely on the rationality in this century? Why did we banked on globalisation as a reason as to why the majority won’t vote for Trump? Why didn’t we gauge it right, that the energy of hatred is high than the energy of love?

Let’s face it, this is how the real estate mogul waged his battle: Us versus Them.

Outsiders versus political elites (the insiders of Washington D.C)

Donald Trump, having learned the power of advertisement, he sold himself to the majority of Americans as political outsider. And in the best powerful sale language that builds on easy-to-pronounced words, he sold out the political elites in Washington D.C as toxins, and Washington D.C as a “swamp” that needed “draining”. With this pitch, how didn’t we see it coming?

Uneducated majority versus educated minority.

By education, I mean the college graduates, Americans who understand the benefits of globalisation, Americans who understand the shrinking America is the disease that the expanding America by welcoming refugees and (im)migrants are the cure. However, what did Donald Trump sell to the uneducated majority of Americans in the cities and in rural areas? He twisted every problem the Americans are facing today as a product of the educated minority’s mistake, opening up borders to refugees and migrants.

American born citizens versus Immigrants

America being door to door and window to window with Mexico, undocumented immigrants have streamed into the main lands and islands of U.S. So, every crime committed, be it by selling drugs or buying guns to kill Americans at a large scale is blamed on migrants and undocumented immigrants.  To Donald Trump, if you’re biracial, you must have been born outside America. Donald Trump raised to the echelons of American politics by questioning the birth legitimacy of one the best American presidents, Barrack Obama. The birther movement tarnished the purity of American multiracial identity. The movement visited the chasms of racism.

When Obama became the president of the United States, for the first time, white Americans feel robbed, robbed of their advantage of ruling America. So, when Donald Trump crafted his political slogan as “Make America Great Again”. It rang as loud and clear as the wakeup call in every white man’s and woman’s ear.  And this made the radical and reckless policies such as building the high wall to keep the Mexicans out the golden laws of America and the lifelines for Americans.  Lifelines that will save them from Mexicans from stealing their jobs and bringing in drugs.  So, when person, a man or a woman waged a political war in this manner, why couldn’t we see the win of this person coming?

Republicans versus Democrats

In all countries with two major political parties, citizens or voters alternate the leadership between them (two parties). It’s always because of a frustration acquired in the duration of one party (e.g. Republican or Democratic) in the office especially if that party has won twice. When it comes to Obama’s presidency, republicans and some democrats feel frustrated with wars in the Middle East, the ISIS barbarism and those legislations, which gave birth to Obamacare. Conservatives and some democrats hate the policies of Obama, which invested in strategy of “let them engage themselves.”  The arrogant majority of Americans see it as “leading from behind”.  With this notion, the slogan “Make America Great Again” resonates in a nostalgic atmosphere.

So, let’s ask ourselves, how couldn’t we see the Trump’s presidency coming?

Religious Americans versus non-religious Americans.

Obama came into the political view of American majority when he appealed to them as “the audacity of hope”. A torch bearer in controversial issues such as homosexuality or the same-sex marriage and the Abortion. He (Obama) sold them as issues open to the discussion, however, after his first term he supported both and signed them into legislations.

On contrary, Donald Trump sold himself to both black and white evangelists as pro-life when it comes to abortion. “There should be some form of punishment for women who do abortion.” So, to Christian conservatives, Donald Trump is hope to restore the Christians’ values especially the value of “all lives matter”.

So, how come we didn’t see Donald Trump’s presidency coming?

So let’s hope he will learn the political tones and act as the president of the free world, and not like a racist farmer in the rural America.
