Governor Philip Aguer visits county headquarters

November 28, 2016 (SSB) — The governor of Jonglei State H.E. Philip Aguer Panyang Jot visits the county headquarters as a follow up to monitor the newly created counties on Monday. The governor left capital Bor earlier this morning after addressing honorable members of the press at secretariat general.
The governor had earlier warned of amalgamation of non-proactive Counties if services are not delivered to the common people as required of the new commissioners. The statement was echoed last week by Speaker of South Sudan council of states.
Months ago, the 14 new commissioners of Jonglei State were deployed to their headquarters in a rally organized at Jonglei State Constitutional Square (council of ministers), the fourteen Commissioners affirmed their commitments to realization of SPLM vision of taking town to the people.
“I am moving to Baidit (Bor west county), it is monitoring of the formation of new counties because every month I will be meeting with the 14 commissioners,” H.E. Philip Aguer told the journalist.
The governor will meet the commissioners of Gok Area in Anyidi, the commissioners of Twic East in Panyagoor, commissioners of Duk in Poktap, meanwhile the governor would meet commissioners of Athooch area in Baidit town.
Numerous voices amplified by the citizens across the state continue to welcome the devolution of powers through decentralization while also demanding for re-division of new Jonglei.
Currently the state of Jonglei is challenged by lack of resources despite the visionary leadership of Comrade Philip Aguer Panyang Jot, the state governor. Five ministers of Jonglei State government including the governor and 14 county commissioners have no cars.
Through his campaign for resettlement of IDPs, the government of Jonglei state has realized that people have returned to their villages. Thousands of cattle have been received from the Equatoria region and many others are expected to return this dry season.
The States of South Sudan were created out of the three historic former provinces (and contemporary regions) of Bahr el Ghazal (northwest), Equatoria (southern), and Greater Upper Nile (northeast). The 28 states are further divided into 180 counties. Meanwhile in new Jonglei state, three counties have been divided into 14 which raised controversy from the citizens and was later addressed amicably by Aguer administration.
The South Sudan Council of States headed by Joseph Bul Chan and South Sudan transitional legislative assembly had ratified the constitutional amendments on the establishment of 28 states which had been rejected by the SPLM/IO, the international community and many other international organizations. Despite the denunciation from the international actors, the counties pick-up under the trees with unflinching momentum moving forward.
