39 people killed in Jonglei State-Duk Padiet area by armed Murle men

January 19, 2017 (SSB) — 39 people have been killed and dozen others wounded in Duk area of Jonglei State. Among the dead are 29 cattle raiders, and 12 indigenous people of Duk Area. The raiders were confirmed to be Murle armed men.

At least nine civilians who sustained gunshot wounds in an attack on Jonglei‘s Duk Padiet County were yesterday referred to Juba Military Hospital for treatment from their wounds.

A doctor who spoke to JIPPD on anonymity for not being authorized to give statement to media said Thursday that the wounded were immediately referred to Juba on arrival to Bor State Hospital from Duk because they cannot handle the cases.

The doctor described the conditions of the wounded as serious. On Monday suspected criminals from the neighboring Boma State attacked Paloch cattle Camp of Duk Padiet County killing 12, wounding 9 and making away with many of cattle which were reportedly retrieved from the raiders.

The on and off cattle raiding intensified in Jonglei and Boma after the two states signed a peace accord aimed at mitigating communal violent conflict early last month.

The Jonglei Institute institute for Peace, Democracy and Development JIPDD condemns this brutal act and call upon the state government of Boma to identify this criminals and bring them to book.
