January 19, 2017 (SSB) — There’s no doubt that our country is in dire need of something that has become so difficult to get and that’s peace for all. I’m talking here about peace that lives for forever in every corner of our country but not the sort of peace that is found in certain places of the country while war rages on in other parts.
I mean peaceful coexistence where we can live and mix together with no suspicious looks at each other because of one’s ethnicity. Peace where one can go to anyplace in the country without fear of being targeted. Peace where people of different political affiliations can pat their shoulders and exchange pleasantries not punches.
But how can we come to the realization of that sort of total Peace in our divided country?
Many can be quick to point at our leaders as solely responsible for ensuring that peace is attained whereas others such as religious people can think of divine intervention as the way to peace. Yeah, they can be right to say that but they fail to identity one other crucial playmaker.
All efforts to achieving Peace can be futile without the input of one key participant, the governed who are the ordinary of people, but whose potential tend to be underestimated
Many people are made to believe that leaders can singlehandedly deliver peace. But that’s a mistaken perception. In fact the governed are the master key holder’s to the closed door of peace.
No transitional governments of national unity can guarantee eternal peace and stability in whichever way. What governments do is making good use of the available scarce resources or loot them and division of national cake evenly or impartially.
The governed are the deciders of whatever thing the government plans. They can strike down what is unfavorable. They wield a strong veto power only that they are unaware of what they possess.
Governments only preach messages of peace but the governed put it to action.
When you and I, the ordinary people, change our hardened hearts full of prejudice towards each other, peace can be attained.
When you and me, pay deaf ears to divisive messages of some of our leaders, we would have pulled off the wheel from the over speeding car headed for collision and avoided a catastrophe.
When you and I cease being used as tools for advancing detrimental tribal or political cause, we would’ve done well for our country.
Hate in our country which is the cause of war is societal and there’s nothing the government can do about it. The can helplessly do nothing to sway your conviction about other people. So it’s incumbent upon us to rid of ourselves of hate.
So as to conclude, Peace is achievable only when the governed and the government work trustworthily hand in hand.
