Governor Philip Aguer: Jonglei and Boma States to Hold Peace Conference in Kapoeta

April 24, 2017 (SSB) — The Governor of Jonglei State Philip Aguer Panyang has confirmed the resumption of the recent postponed peace deal between the two States of Jonglei and Boma soon.
Jonglei Governor stated that the Boma State Governor Ismail Konyi has accepted Peace Conference between the two neighboring States last week. Aguer made the statement during the morning service at St. Andrew Church on Sunday in Bor, Jonglei State.
According to Governor Aguer, the Boma State Governor did not accept Terekeka anymore and Torit as well but he preferred Kapoeta State as the conducive place for the peace to take place.
Philip call upon the Citizen of Jonglei to remain calm and promise that peace will be achieved between Jonglei and Boma State this year.
“If a father has many children at home and one of the children misbehave, he/she cannot be disowned but by the father but should be call upon by the father to sit down and discuss the point of misunderstanding together as the children of the same mother and father. So for this peace to come, we should all work for it in the negotiation table”, Governor said
He also urged the Church to preach peace in Jonglei State and across South Sudan.
Meanwhile, the UNMISS Head of Field Offices in Jonglei State Mrs. Debora urged the citizens of Jonglei and Boma States to avoid violence and have a dialogue among themselves.
“The dialogue is the solution to the issues among the communities. Both states need to negotiate and reached the consensus then using arms as a mean”, she said
She promised the two State Governors to provide them with any assistance in term of transport to make sure that peace prevailed in the two areas.
“UNMISS will be ready to provide transport for the two States Governments such that the conflict is resolves amicably”, she promised
Debora further calls upon the two Governors to work for peace as the key towards development of the brotherly States.
The peace deal between the two States which was scheduled to take place at Terekeka State in March was postponed due to unknown reasons from the authorities in the region.
