I beseech father I am hungry

By Riak Marial Riak, Juba, South Sudan

I stood watching my groaning sheep on lea,

On the “grave of men” where I be calm and me,

Switching my eyes to see hare in a mirth

That day my ankles shook like a mortar.

I beseech my father I am faintly hungry.

There are guards preventing me entering there;

There’s a sign telling me no way through

But father hear a voice quivering at your door,

My voice is troubled and troubled to cry,

O I beseech my father I am fistly hungry.

I am tired of doing nothing to live,

This confinement father had confine me now,

My life why should be a lie here with me.

That people move in the sun sleek with hungry faces.

I beseech the day my father for terribly I am hungry.

This song I sing is for all in the land,

There are people in agreement with sun

That rains should not descend again to Kush,

I see my sheep dosing with pimpernel in the wood.

I beseech my father I am beastly hungry.

A double, double wind plagueing my dwindling life all days,

Many a time with unjust prone to the way.

I am a hollow pit with simmering embers in the night,

My eyes always break to unseen and sheen smouldering ash.

I beseech father I am ghastly hungry.

Do not feed alone your expanding belly;

The clangour alarming a miser on the way to dark room,

There is strangling refusing unclear splashing in the land.

I am going like snow when face of brightness come

O I beseech the seal of the meal father I am hungry.
