Dear governor, re-structure your office to have a good outlook

May 2, 2017 (SSB) — Nobody is free from nepotism even if you are a man of God when it comes to giving out positions especially when that person is in a position of authority or is involved in the recruitment process. When a person recommends a relative or friend for the job regardless of their qualifications, then it becomes nepotism or cronyism. It’s therefore unethical and unlawful to employ or recruit your close relatives to work in the same office.

Mr. Governor, since your appointment on 14th January 2017, there were mixed reactions amongst Jieng of Malakal in general and Ngok Lual Yak in particular. Some people thought that you were appointed by the First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai for being a member of I.O. others said that you were not qualified to be a Governor. And because there were no wide and inclusive consultations, nobody rejected the decree issued by the President of the Republic for your appointment simply because we all know modalities used for appointing the governors. Whether you are an I.O member or unqualified to hold the gubernatorial post is none of my concern. My concern however, as the native of Central Upper Nile State is only NEPOTISM in the appointment of your office staff.

Let me define my dear readers the word ‘’ NEPOTISM’’ before I explain why there is nepotism in Governor’s appointment of his office staff. In Cambridge dictionary, NEPOTISM has been defined as the act of using your power or influence to get good job or unfair advantages for members of your own family. Wikipedia also defines NEPOTISM that it is based on favouritism granted to relatives in various fields including business, politics etc. with these clear definitions, you would agree with me that Governor Tor has employed his relatives in his office. Ngok Lual Yak, for those who do not know, has 11 sections and Rev. James Tor. Governor of Central Upper Nile State comes from a section called AWIEER. And if AWIEER is divided into sub-sections, then he hails from sub-section called PABUOL.

Unless you are not from Ngok Lual Yak or Jieng of Malakal or you have never visited the state’s coordination office here in Juba, you would be surprised to see Goi Chuang Monydit, Ustaz. Miyom Mayiik Lual and Amer Ayuel Deng tol sit in the same office. These forks are cousins and close family members of the Governor. They are called ‘’Paan de Nyandeng’’. Ustaz. Miyom Mayiik is the office manager, Goi Chuang is an assistant to Ustaz. Miyom incase Miyom is absent and Amer is the secretary. They all run Governor’s office. And as if that is not enough, he (the Governor) went ahead and chose individuals from AWIEER as his bodyguards.

Their names are as follows: Yasir Myong Yak, Thuch Miyom, Nyangdit Monychol, Kuol Yol, and Kuol Padol Miyom Mayeny just to mention few.

Mr. Governor, this culture of nepotism and cronyism is unacceptable, unethical and unlawful. What would our brothers from Dongjol, Luaj, Paweny, Rut and Thoi say about you? Wouldn’t it be like the case of former Governor Gen. Chol Thon when he specifically appointed people from Ngok Lual Yak to run his office. He was then accused of nepotism by politicians from Northern upper Nile area. Dear Governor, Rev. Tor Monybuny, you are a man of God and therefore you should be good when it comes to jobs division.
