Lone mother of the helpless young orphan

By Awuol Gabriel Arok, Juba, South Sudan

Beautiful she is among her sisters,
Deafen by gun’s sounds;
Thinned by poverty;
Ignored by her sister, for her illiteracy,
Traumatized by frequent death of her children;
Forget mother!
And let’s push harder the slippery wall of survival.

Beautiful mother in her twentieth,
Surrounded by hidden treasuries of super-quality
But due to my father’s mysterious death, She roams the world;
Looking for children and comfortable life;
From my step father to be;
I have seen your miseries mother;
But forget! Let settle and build our little tukul.
What a wonderful home she has,
Home with well-known baby River Nile
And her caring mother Lake Victoria;
Blessed home with famous mountain Kilimanjaro;
What a wonderful home! With soothing and welcoming
gold-shinning Indian Ocean;
A home floating on minerals and deposits of oil;
Pristine home encircled by unique Mahoganies and fine teaks,
But her helpless hands and the death of my father;
Makes her gifts unproductive,
Forget mother! I will pluck wild leaves for our survival.
Who among them, my aunts; can compete with her,
my mother; the queen of ageless Nile,
In terms of cultures and self-styles?
She-a glowing worm in the pit of death,
But I know; one day, one time I will free her,
Free her from this torment of suffering;
Free her from that bottomless pit of death,
Forget mother!
I will soon reach my maturity for your surety.
