December 7, 2017 (SSB) — Children in their early teenage years often discuss how their future would pan out to be and what kind of profession each one would want to follow. My above-mentioned brothers and I one time had a similar kind of discussion.
I started the discussion myself by revealing that I would want to be a doctor if things go the way I would want them to be. Gabriel Makuach, my stepbrother, followed with his wish saying that all he dreamt of was to be an Engineer.
Ngong’s turn came and said he also wanted to be a doctor. Then, I was in primary eight and the brothers were in primary 3 still. We carried the results of our discussion to our father, Manyuat Ayii Ngong. All he advised was that he wished each one of us to work to the fulfillment of our dreams.
My elder brother Garang was absent in the discussion because he was at the cattle camp, a place he always went to by virtue of being and elder son in the family according to Dinka tradition.
In 2010/2011 academic year, I sat for Sudan School Certificate Exams and attained 81.1% in Science section-the best score in the state at the time. This score secured my admission to the College of Medicine, the University of Juba in 2013 and I am currently in the Fifth year.
In 2014/2015, I sent my two brothers to Bussere National Secondary School in Wau to sit for South Sudan Certificate Examinations and Ngong managed to score 82.0% and Makuach got 76.3 %, both in the science section.
Yesterday, December 5th, 2017, Government public admission results were announced with Ngong and Makuach admitted to the University of Juba’s colleges of Medicine and Engineering (Mechanical) respectively.
Conclusively, this story confirms that what one dreams of in childhood can be realized if you keep working hard for it. From the bottom of my heart, I am so much gratified that God is helping my brothers and I realize our dream.
What discussed like a joke matter is almost finally being realized. My hat is off to you boys. I, as an elder brother to you, will continue to give my all to make sure that your now untapped potentials reach a peak by God’s grace and blessing.
