February 4, 2018 (SSB) — IGAD-led high-level revitalization of South Sudan peace agreement, 2015 second forum focusing on matters of Governance, interim arrangements, permanent ceasefire, and security arrangement will kick off tomorrow in Ethiopia city of Addis Ababa. This forum is aiming at bringing a peace deal that will bring to end the on-going violent conflict in the country since July 2016.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization appreciates IGAD for being timely in organizing the second round of the high-level revitalization forum for reaching a deal on governance and security arrangement to bring an end to the on-going violent conflict.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says this round of the forum should be considered to be the last and the South Sudan conflicting parties should take primary responsibility for bringing peace. Peace is needed by the citizens since yesterday. The tactic of dragging talks because of the power-sharing among the political elites should be stopped now

The expectations of the citizens for a peace deal to be reached in this second round of peace revitalization forum is higher. The political elites should not let down the citizens. Make peace happen and then allow citizens to decide on power-sharing through the vote in the genuinely democratic elections process. Mr. Yakani stressed

Finally, CEPO calls upon the South Sudan parties to be concern about the suffering of the citizens from their actions that generated violence across the country. Let peace deal be reached by 16th Feb. 2018 without failure

“The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) is a non-profit, civil society, South Sudanese organization, registered by the Ministry of Justice on 17th November 2010. The organization was initially formed in Khartoum in 1999 and consisted of mostly University students, but its scope broadened after it was established in Juba, Southern Sudan as a separate entity. Presently, CEPO is engaged in the areas of Peace and conflict mitigation, human rights, rule of law, livelihood, governance and democratic transformation. MR. EDMUND YAKANI BERIZILIOUS is the Executive Director of CEPO.”
