CEPO: The Opening of the Second Phase of IGAD-led HLRF is Impressive

February 5, 2018 (SSB) —- Today in the Ethiopia capital Addis Ababa the second IGAD high-level revitalization forum kick off. The opening speeches were strong and straightforward on demanding South Sudanese conflicting parties to take this second phrase of HLRF as the last chance. All the speeches made were calling for punitive measures against those individuals and groups from the conflicting parties will be violating or obstructing implementation of the agreement.
H.E. African Union (AU) Commission chairman Moussa Faki among others demanded South Sudanese conflicting parties’ leadership to take primary responsibility for reaching a peace deal in this round of the HLRF. While IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan called for the change of attitudes from the low will to implement to high will to implement. Community Empowerment for Progress Organization welcomes the opening speeches. They are remarkable and clearing sending messages to South Sudanese conflicting parties to give peace chance now not tomorrow.
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says the spirit and feeling of the South Sudanese delegates are positive and encouraging. The possibility of reaching peace deal during this round of the revitalization is high but the leadership of the warring has the culture of compromise on matters of power sharing. The big challenges that may drag the talks are the distribution of power among the political actors. The sense of power-sharing may take a long time
South Sudanese should be optimistic about the gaining peace in this second round of the HLRF in Addis Ababa. This is because the region and the international community are saying with one voice. The ball is in the hands of our political elites. Our political elites have to demonstrate their primary responsibility for making peace happen in South Sudan. Mr. Yakani stressed

The organization was initially formed in Khartoum in 1999 and consisted of mostly University students, but its scope broadened after it was established in Juba, Southern Sudan as a separate entity. Presently, CEPO is engaged in the areas of Peace and conflict mitigation, human rights, rule of law, livelihood, governance and democratic transformation. MR. EDMUND YAKANI BERIZILIOUS is the Executive Director of CEPO.”
