Sudan and South Sudan Borders is witnessing Negative Development

April 2, 2018 (SSB) — Observation of growing frictions between Sudan and South Sudan at the borders of Northern Upper Nile is increasing at the disturbance and worries level among the civil population of both Countries. The increase of Sudan army forces and now followed with the closure of border point within a period last than one week; it is a discouraging sign of soft borders.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization is urging Sudan and South Sudan governments to sort out the difference of disputes in a non-violent manner. Sudan demonstration of the heavy presence of military forces is a bad and intimidating act. This is unacceptable and in the strong term, CEPO condemned the act

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says both governments of Sudan and South Sudan should promote soft border for the benefits of both countries citizens.

Sudan recent demonstration of heavy military presence is provoking act that needs to be stopped immediately by AU. Pushing for military confrontation at the border of both is destructive for both countries since their higher population and economic activities are located at the borders of both countries.

Any border war or tension between Sudan and South Sudan has the immediate negative impact on the economy and refugee population of both countries. Therefore, both governments need to refrain from the violent act at the borders and specifically Sudan government at the current moment. The hostile act of Sudan government recent at the border is too provocative. Mr. Yakani stressed.

Finally, countries in the process of seeking peace mediation for their internal political disputes taking violent act currently is a clear demonstration of the act that aiding actions towards spoiling peace mediation process.

Such actions can be counted as the act of peace spoilers or violators. CEPO urge AU High Implementation Panel to urge intervene to the recent negative development at South Sudan and Sudan borders.
