KIDNAPPED AID WORKERS IN YEI FREED

April 30, 2018 (PW) — South Sudan’s main armed opposition group allied to former first vice president turned rebel leader, Riek Machar says it has released the 10 aid workers who were abducted near Yei. The humanitarian workers were held for more than five days, since 25 April.
“The leadership of the SPLM/A IO has released the 10 aid workers detained in Yei and they are now heading to Juba. The aid workers have been handed over to the International Community of the Red Cross (ICRC),” said Paul Lam Gabriel, rebel deputy spokesman told Radio Tamazuj this afternoon.
Community Empowerment for Progress Organization appreciates the release of the 10 aid workers. This is a remarkable act from the SPLM/A-IO under Dr. Riek Machar for respecting the international humanitarian law. But this mistake should be control since it become a repeated act of recent.Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says it is great that the aid workers were release by the SPLM/A-IO under Dr. Riek Machar. It is remarkable demonstration of responsibility for responding to the immediate calls made by various actors on the immediate release of the aid workers.
At CEPO we welcome the release and appreciated SPLM/A-IO for the positive response to our call for immediate release of the aid workers.
Conflicting parties of South Sudan should stop targeting aid workers. They are not political motivated players or actors. They just dictated their lives for addressing matters of vulnerable population. Mr. Yakani stressed.
Finally, CEPO would like to remain the warring parties South Sudan harming or obstructing humanitarian workers and access is a total violation of international humanitarian law and the violation count as crime against humanity
