Friday,May 11, 2018 (PW) — IGAD Council of Ministers consultations with the South Sudan parties on possibility of gaining compromises for success of next phase of High Level Revitalization Forum that begins from May 10th -12th, 2018 CEPO view the consultation as chance for turning point for either stopping the war or confirming the war as an option for resolving the on-going violence.
The sense from the messaging from each party towards other(s) shows that the consultations will face hard moment of augments for compromises and the sense of rigidity seems to be dominating.
The parties without change of attitudes from focusing on power sharing percentage more than responsibility sharing for forming effective government, the chances for breakthrough for compromise during the IGAD Council of Minister consultations with the parties are very low.
CEPO is calling upon IGAD Council of Ministers during the consultation to effectively lobby the parties for genuine compromises that geared towards formation of transitional government for transitional period for building cornerstones for sustainable peace.
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says the attitudes of the parties towards the IGAD Council of Ministers consultation is much focusing on Win-Lost approach for building results for handling the next phase of HLRF from May 17th-21st, 2018.
This is not encouraging. We are expecting the parties to change attitudes from that to engaging on Win-Win approach since they are framing strategies for forming transitional government for a transitional period.
IGAD Council of Ministers should really think of how to manage the fears and lack of confidence for success for working together as parties for delivering South Sudanese from the on-going sufferings in various forms to peace and stability.
The mistrust and lack of confidences among the parties for working together is a key factor that determines their spirit and will for compromising.
Building factors for winning the parties trust and confidence towards each other for working together for delivering South Sudanese out of the on-going suffering should be the priority of IGAD Council of Ministers consultation. Mr. Yakani stressed.
Finally, CEPO is repeating the call for South Sudan parties to do favor and secure the citizens from the on-going suffering in its various forms by compromising for making peace prevail through next phase of HLRF.
Children suffering from inadequate services because of the on-going violence on their road to future will honestly appreciate and seek almighty God bless for your compromises for peace as parties.
Do compromises now not tomorrow for sake of better road for the children to walk without fears to the future.
