CEPO Press Release: President Kiir to Meet Riek Machar in Khartoum

Wednesday, June 6, 2018 (PW) — Juba, South Sudan President Salva Kiir agreed to meet with his former First Vice-President Riek Machar in Khartoum, announced the Sudanese Foreign Minister upon his return from Juba on Tuesday.
The delegation conveyed to Kiir a message from President Omer al-Bashir proposing him to meet with Machar in Khartoum in support of the IGAD High-Level Revitalization Forum of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.
“President Salva Kiir thanked President Omar al-Bashir for the initiative, which he said reflected the spirit of brotherhood and loyalty between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples,” said the Sudanese foreign ministry spokesperson.
Kiir welcomed the initiative and affirmed his government’s readiness to participate in the meeting and to contribute to its success to achieve security and stability in South Sudan, he said.
Community Empowerment for Progress Organization is impressed and highly welcomes the acceptance of the President to meet Dr. Riek Machar as a strategy of making peace happened in South Sudan.
This is remarkable move by H.E. President. Thanks for the efforts of Sudan for ensuring peace and stability prevail in South Sudan.
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says the acceptance of the President for the meeting face to face Dr. Riek Machar is clear demonstration of the Will for making peace and stability prevail in South Sudan.
It is time to compromise for peace and non-violent settlement of political difference for the best interest of the citizens of South Sudan. It is essential to opt out of violence now in South Sudan. Violence never gains.
The on-going violence in South Sudan should be stop and the political difference resolved in non-violent manner.  The action taken by Sudan was great and it is demonstration of neighbor that wants to see neighbor living in peace and stability.
It is great that Sudan and Kenya responded positively to our call for neighbors to intervene stable South Sudan benefits all and instable South Sudan disturbed all.
Finally CEPO calls upon the conflicting parties of South Sudan to resolve their political difference non-violently.
CEPO will be seeking the leadership of the faith based groups for organization of the a national prayer prior the face –to-face meeting of H.E. President and Dr. Riek Machar on 30th June, 2018 in Sudan-Khartoum.
