Sunday, July 8, 2018 (PW) — South Sudan’s main opposition leader Riek Machar will return to his position as the country’s first vice president, the Sudan news agency SUNA reported.
“It has been agreed that there will be four vice presidents: the current two vice presidents, plus Riek Machar who will assume the position of first vice president, and then the fourth position will be allocated to a woman from the opposition,” Al-Dideiri Ahmed,  Sudan’s foreign minister, was quoted as saying by the state-owned news agency.
The power sharing deal of four vice presidents, 45 ministries and 550 members of parliament including 32 states was reached on Saturday during a meeting in Uganda.
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization is urging the authorities of Sudan and specifically the Sudan facilitators to brief the civil society delegates on the outcomes of the Uganda meeting.
We are stakeholders of the peace process and we should be informed about the outcomes of Uganda meeting officially. Keeping us uninformed is unacceptable act and it result to exclusion from the peace process
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says since morning of today we are in dilemma in the peace talk’s venue. We saw some politicians totally smiling while other are absolutely worry.
We told that Uganda have offered new proposal that was agree upon on power sharing outstanding issues. But we have not received official briefing from Sudan facilitators or official copies of the Uganda meeting outcomes.
As stakeholders to the peace process are strongly demanding Sudan authorities and facilitators to brief us officially. Rumors in social media are taking lead in providing information us with information.
To avoid rumors shaping our understanding we are urgently demanding Sudan facilitators to brief us as delegates of civil society
Finally, CEPO is calling upon the conflicting parties to demonstrate same spirit for resolving the security and permanent ceasefire outstanding issue during the time of resolving governance outstanding issues.
Compromise for peace, the citizens is suffering due to the on-going violence
