Thursday, October 18, 2018 (PW) —Last week a magnificence warning was given out to the Public by Juba City council on the plan to crackdown commercial sex workers and those whose plots have been turned into brothels.

Thank God that notice was executed as seen in the Juba Monitor Newspaper Vol. 8, Issue No. 1481 according to the wondrous report 52 commercial sex workers were convicted by Kator Court for being involved in commercial sex.

That initiative is of great concern and JCC must be applauded for that.

Immediately after the Peace of 2005 that brought together SPLM/A and the Government of Sudan under the umbrella of the Government of National Unity, a large number of people among them foreigners came to Juba for work and economic opportunities.

Among those who came as business people and investors were groups of commercial sex workers who did not spare any available opportunity in sight.

From 2005 to 2014 busy centers and markets within Juba city have been occupied by commercial sex workers, parts of old customs, some areas adjacent to ABMC and parts of Jebel Market have been their hottest spots.

Poverty and disease are two unsympathetic killers that a poor society cannot cope with, ignorance and lack of awareness had made it possible for a number of people to fall into the death trap.

Some commercial sex workers joined the trade not to meet their daily living but to spoil the health net of the society.

As such a fraction of the population had fallen into the smoky holes of human wolves and have been suffering in silence.

Civil society organizations and government institution that deal directly with health issues must immediately step in and support that brilliant step taken by JCC.

Much need to be done if we are to have a healthy nation infectious diseases are health threats and must be given greater care and attention.

The Administration of Juba City Council and the security have done a great job and have to continue with the effort of encountering bias that are against social well being of the citizens.
