Monday, March 4, 2019 (PW) — Comradeship greetings to you all, saluting and wishing you ahead of time a very Happy Easter. The SPLM activities in South Sudan and all over have been geared towards achieving total peace and reconciliation in our beloved country. February had continued witnessing the arrival of our brothers and sisters who were fighting against the government and sovereignty of our country.
Their messages on arrival have been: “ Never again shall we fight each other; Democracy will be the way of political life in the country; South Sudan first and everything else follows… all those who are still holding out under foreign influence should come home as well”. We are pleased that everyone has realised peace as such.
The fact that peace has come to stay permanently in South Sudan is echoed outside the country as foreign dignitaries and investors start to come to South Sudan in numbers. To mention some examples of this, the SPLM hosted a large number of Chinese investors who visited South Sudan from 24th to 27th February. The investors are specialists in different areas ranging from infrastructure construction; roads and bridges; agriculture; mining and industry…to waste management.
This visit came about as a result of the South Sudan delegation that was led by H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit to China last September to attend China Africa Forum of heads of states meeting. During that time, President Kiir met with his counter part, President Xi Jienping of China and other African heads of states.
It was in this meeting that the African Union heads of states and President Xi Jienping hailed President Salva Kiir as peacemaker. The ministers and the SPLM Secretary for External Relations that accompanied President Salva Kiir, signed various Memoranda of Understanding with their Chinese counterparts based on win-win outcome results. The South Sudan Embassy in China immediately started coordinating the implementation of the MoUs.
Amb Monday Kumba from the South Sudan Embassy in Beijing accompanied the team of investors that visited South Sudan in February. The SPLM National Secretariat is very grateful to Ambassador John Andruga and team for their tireless efforts in promoting and coordinating with investors to implement the agreed projects.
During their visit to South Sudan, the Chinese Business delegation signed series of agreements with SPLM and Ministry of Health in addition to agreed joint investment activities with the Ministry of Mining and Industry and the Mayor of juba Town City. The investors were impressed by peaceful and secured environment of South Sudan that is conducive to investment in opposite to what some outsiders say as insecurity in South Sudan.
From 26th February until the time of writing this Message, President Salva Kiir, government Ministers, members of national assembly and Council of States legislators have gone to states to disseminate peace in the whole country. President Kiir is heading to Bhar el ghazal on his programme of visiting states to disseminate peace. Accompanying H.E the President are the government ministers, parliamentarians, women and youth leaders and Former Detainees (FDs).
In February too, the Prime Minister of Vietnam and other dignitaries visited South Sudan on building strong bilateral relations. The number of friendly countries to South Sudan is increasing. South Sudan has become a place for investment and learning on how to resolve conflicts.
Important messages and lessons learned either by or from foreigners are that people of South Sudan should be the ones responsible to resolve their problems without expecting outside interference. It is becoming increasingly evident that some foreigners would want provide solutions that lengthen the conflict so that they gain economically by looting resources of South Sudan or annexing parts of South Sudan.
Foreign friends advise that South Sudanese should not take smiles as gestures of true friendship. South Sudanese should be themselves and choose what is good for them, they maintain.
In February, a committee chaired by Cde Gen. Daniel Awet Akot, the Presidential Advisor and SPLM Member Political Bureau, completed arrangements for SPLM unification. This will enhance and strengthen SPLM status as a liberation and mass political party.
Finally, I would want all South Sudanese in Diaspora offices to disseminate peace messages on the basis that if being the president, minister or general in the army are the issues, we need to follow criteria of become one. Ethnic violence is not the answer.
In a pluralistic democracy like ours, one does not need to belong to a certain tribe to be president, minister or general in the army, but to be the child citizen of South Sudan with qualities that make you outstanding among South Sudanese. Be the person South Sudanese admire because of your role model exemplary.
