Tuesday, June 11, 2019 (PW) — “In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way”-Franklin D. Roosevelt (32nd U.S President, 1882-1945).Greater Wunkuel is a subsection of former Kuac South County in Gogrial State. It now falls under Kuac West County which is headquartered in Maluil-tït. It is further subdivided into six bomas of Wunkuel-dit, Wunkuel-thii, Warkou, Pantit, Malek-Kuei and Baai-Nhom (2013 data). The creation of these lower administrative units is not for division purpose. But it is for fair and adequate distribution of services and job opportunities among people.
What is happening here is a complete reverse of this obvious logic. This unjust practice has been in progress for ages now. I thought my fellow peers and Greater Wunkuel youth members would understand they are going astray. I thought they would apply what they have acquired from school over time to its real practice, but all in vain. It is indeed a humiliating, disgraceful and unfair act.
There is a certain cluster of people that I would call in this article as “Hok Kïk” (individualists) who act as “all youth decisions’ drivers”. The Hok Kïk group has been operational since existence of Greater Wunkuel and its bomas. It is a chronic malpractice that had never undergone diagnosis and remedy. The Hok Kïk group is a political unit made up of a bench of young gentlemen who entitle themselves as “high-level judges or judging masters”. What are they judging in the first place?
Self-prominence and monopoly cannot be an honest jobs my dear fellows-“the Hok Kïk group members”. Can an extreme and gluttonous quest for power be judgement? The word “judgment” in its simplest meaning is the process of making a fair decision to solve a dispute between two or more people or a group of people. It does not mean dominating a certain process. How do expect people to honour such a judgement if things are one-sided?
Another worst and unfairest practice happened again in the evening of Saturday, 08.06.2019 at Rambo Ground in Juba. That occasion was for election of Kuac Youth Union-Juba (KYU-J) chairpersonship. The steering committee asked the general assembly to nominate twelve representative members for KYU-J’s Executive Council. In that simple exercise, the former Kuac North and Kuac South counties were given six vacancies apiece. For the former Kuac North County, I think there was no deadlock at all. But we the youth in Greater Kuac South area, especially the Greater Wunkuel youth, are greedy and selfish.
The Greater Kuac South locality is now categorized into Kuac South County (Greater Dong) and Kuac West County (Greater Wunkuel). The Greater Dong went with the three positions and Greater Wunkuel with its three posts. That was a fair allocation of positions. But the Hok Kïk group members (the individualists) of Greater Wunkuel came and corrupted the distribution exercise. What happens to Pantit, Baai-Nhom & Malek-Kuei Bomas?
Are they not part of Greater Wunkuel or what is it? We logically understand that Wunkueldit, Warkou and Wunkuel-thii came into existence before Pantit, Malek-Kuei, Baai-Nhom or whatever boma. But that should not be an opportunity for you people. Things have to be shared with equality, humanity and compassion as one family.
Improper handling of this issue could jeopardize our mutual corporation as youth of this section of Kuac Ayok Magong. I and other Greater Wunkuel youths are not happy for that tradition. And that is what the title of this article bears; “The Unhealthiest Practice among Greater Wunkuel Youth Which May Mount to Political Crisis in Greater Wunkuel Youth Affairs”. I do wonder why the “Hok Kïk group” always opts it that way. Where is the equity that people usually talk about? The majority of KYU-J attendees are my eye witnesses. Overall, power greed is an underlying source of unfairness and must not be tolerated by the neglected youths of aforementioned bomas of Greater Wunkuel.
I am appealing to my brothers and sisters who also experience such a similar effect of Hok Kïk group. It is now a growing issue. That is an act of unprofessionalism. People are egalitarian according to Human Rights. This algebraic formula that you have just applied here will not work in this algebraic equation. You have indeed used an incorrect formula. For sure, it is not your problem because you guys are not best mathematicians since day one. But why shouldn’t you also learn from the correction of your mathematics teachers? Your teachers in this case are the majority of youth you have just underestimated. We in the previously stated bomas plus others in the other three bomas are the majority in real sense.
What does the Hok Kïk group have that we don’t have? There is nothing we lack and they have. Instead, they are just dwelling on unprofitable program. Where are we heading really? We have been quiet for decades knowing that things would go on in a right way, but we have actually been depriving ourselves of our prerogatives. Being quiet does not mean that we do not know what we are doing. We know what we are doing. And we are now on stand-by to participate diligently.
In the strongest terms, we, the youths of the neglected Bomas, have unanimously rejected the nomination that was made on 8th June, 2019. The nomination was not a sure and legal representation of Greater Wunkuel Youth. It was the work of Hok Kïk group members and hence was not done on behalf of Greater Wunkuel. Can the Hok Kïk group members be representatives of Greater Wunkuel Youth?
If that is not the case, we would like the new leader to return those nominees from Wunkuel and hold on until this issue is well addressed. Failure to respect it will bring on a deleterious brunt on the operation of the new leadership. We are grossly concerned about this intractable and relentless problem.
Sincerely speaking, we do not have a problem with the new leadership, but we are demanding our right. We will not waste time to enumerate the names of the youths from Wunkueldit, Warkou and Wunkuel-thii who participated in any youth organizations, whether within Wunkuel, Kuac South County, Gorgrial or former Warrap State at large. But the truth must remain conspicuous that Pantit, Malek-Kuei and Baai-Nhom have never been given chances in any formal youth associations.
The W-Bomas (Wunkueldit, Warkou & Wunkuel-thii) must realize transparency this round. The trio- bomas of Wunkueldit, Warkou & Wunkuel-thii should also acknowledge the fact that we are one people. Look, the 8th June’s nominees are Makuac Manyuat from Warkou, Anyar Majok from Wunkuel-dit and someone whom I do not know his name from Wunkuel-thii! Where is fairness?
In conclusion, equality and fairness are paramount in social and political organizations. The Greater Wunkuel youths are strenuous, peace-loving and social beings that should not be disunited that way- through Hok Kïk’s (individualistic) motive. Pantit, Baai-Nhoma and Malek-Kuei youths are also capable of leading. In the name of Greater Wunkuel in particular and Kuac Ayok in general, we have formally exhausted our concern here.
