Tribal Revenge or Democratic Transformation: What is Dr. Riek Machar Fighting for in South Sudan?

6 min read

Did we really define objectively what we want as Nuer Nation? If the war was all about tribal revenge or democratic change in South Sudan?

Saturday, August 3, 2019 (PW) —- Don’t you guys (Nuer in Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon’s camp) know where Dinka areas are if you are turning it to be a tribal war between the Nuer and the Dinka?

When we challenged the poor administration of Riek Machar and his uneducated Generals some few individuals who are politically immature termed us as slave of Dinka , Nuerwew, Food lovers , heartless and many others undesirable names that will bring nothing and will never change anything rather than disintegrate the Nuer tribe themselves along different political Movements and clan lines basis where it will end up in clash of clans as it happened in 1997 after the fall of Khartoum Peace Agreement ( KPA ) which was signed by Riek Machar with the government of Khartoum.

The Nuer who are still with Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon are in dilemma, they don’t know what they are fighting for, and this is because of lack of political objective.

If they are fighting for change, why do they divided themselves into the below groups ?

Riek Machar and Emma McCunne

1- the SPLA IO who are claiming to be fighting for change but a change with tribal mindset ideologies.

2- The Agwelek of Johnson Olony Thabu a combined forces of Nuer and Chollo who are fighting for reclaiming lands that they claimed to have been grabbed by the Dinka.

3- The SPLA IO of nowhere who are fighting to install Gen: Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon into a seat of Presidency via forceful mean ( violence ).

4- The white army who are fighting for revenge ( killing the Dinka tribe and flash the few who will remain out of South Sudan ).

5- The Ngundeng Boung’s group who believes in Ngundeng Boung’s an imaginary and false prophecies that there will come a time where Gen: Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon will be install as a Nuer President in South Sudan.

So Gen: Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon isn’t fighting for change, if he would have been fighting for change , he would have answer the below question:

Why is Gen : Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon is currently in need to become again a first vice President for the second time when he could actually rendered the position to any other cadre from any tribe in South Sudan within the movement if he’s really practising democracy and working for change?

Once a Dinka man defected from Salva Kiir Mayardiit’ camp , you termed him as a good man and a patriotic man , but when a Nuer defected from your camp and joined Gen: Taban Deng Gai or Salva Kiir Mayardiit, you termed him as a Nuer wew , and all those sort of names.

I don’t know where you Nuer in Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon’s camp learn such a destructive political culture in this earth planet?

So Gen: Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon is just misleading the Nuer and few tribes who are currently in his movement that he’s fighting for change while he’s not correcting his own leadership paradox.

With this tribal mindset ideologies, I’m sure there will come a time where those in Riek Machar’s camp will fight a clannish war in the bushes of South Sudan because of their divisive and hate politics as long as lack of vision from their boss, that’s where many of you will recall back this writing of mine.

South Sudan’s current political and military crisis need a visible political solution on the table not cheating people and get them killed so that you fulfill your political aspirations in their expenses.

These kinds of misusing people’s power must stop , and let work to unite our people for the seek of Nation building.

Gen. Riek Machar and his mythical change.

One would wonder of what change will Gen. Riek Machar bring to Republic of South Sudan when he’s not able to manage his own Movements.

For instance; Gen.Riek Machar made a coup against SPLM/A in 1991 and formed SPLM/A Nasir faction that he mismanaged it administration and lastly mutated into several rebel groups, and disintegrated into small utterly disorganised militias sparring outfits. An examples were.

1- SPLM/A Nasir of Gen. Riek Machar and Gen. Gordon Koang Choul Kulang.

2- SPLM/A-United of Dr Lam Akol and late Gen. Arok Thon, and late Peter Sule.

3- SPLM/A Bahr el Ghazal Group of late Gen. Kerubino Kuanyin Bol and Gen. Atem Gualdit.

4- SPLM/A Bor group of Arok Thon and Martin Majier’s supporters such as Majur Nhial Makol and Dengtiel Ayuen Kuur after their disagreement with Dr Lam.

5- SPLM/A – independent group of Kawac Makwei.

6- SPLM/A – Unity group of late William Nyuon and Galerio Modi.

7- SSIM/A of Riek and John Luk after Riek Machar changed the name of his Movement ( SPLM/A- Nasir faction).

8- EDF ( Equatoria Defence Force) of Dr Theopilous Ochand .

9- SSFFF (Southern Sudan Freedom Fighters Front) of Dr. Richard K Mulla.

10- SSPLF ( Southern Sudan Patriotic Liberation Front) of Alfred Lado and Prof. Barry Wanji.

11- UDSF/SSDF ( United Democratic Southern Front/ Southern Sudan Defence Forces ) under Riek Machar after he left SSIM/A.

The second failure of Gen.Riek Machar to manage his own Movement again happened after the incident of 2013 that devastated the country and caused a fragile circumstances to our innocent civilians, Gen. Riek Machar’s camp disintegrated into numerous groups as follows;

1- SPLM/A IO under Gen. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon and his Wife Angelina Teny.

2- FDP/A under Hon Gabriel Changson.

3- FDP/A under Gen. Gathoth Gatkouth Hothnyang.

4- FDP/A under Late Gen. Gabriel Gatwich Chan Aka Gabriel Tangenye that later joined NDM of Dr. Lam Akol.

5- FDP/A under Late Gen. Peter Gatdet Yak and later on change its name to SSUM/A.

6- NPAM/A under Gen. Robert Ruai Kuol Jal

7- SPLM/A IO under Gen. Taban Deng Gai after Gen. Riek Machar failed to implement the peace agreement.

8- South Sudan Equality Movement/Army ( SSEM/U) under Gen. John Gattiel.

9- NPAM/A ” National People’s Alliance Movement/Army ” under Gen. Paul Dor Lampuar who later once again joined him.

10- URDM/A ” United Democratic Revolutionary Movement/Army ” under Dr. Gatwich Koang Thiech Dhuor.

Sincerely speaking, Gen. Riek Machar has wretchedly failed to manage all the parties he had ever formed.Gen. Riek Machar brought trouble during the SPLM/A war and now in Republic of South Sudan. I’m quite sure Gen. Riek Machar will end up as a fundamental problem of our country.

If he can’t superintend to marshal a small group ” SPLM/A IO” how do you expect him to marshal the country, so he’s not an agent of change but an agent of holocaust in the history of South Sudan, Stop your hallucination brothers/sisters and ask yourselves of where’s Riek Machar heading you too? deny it at your own risk.

Thanks.
