Tuesday, June 23, 2020 (PW) — Dinka Ngok the land of the legendary Nyankol Mithinag, Cde. Chol Ayuak, Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol, and the prolific evergreen diplomat Ustas! Deng Alor Kuol, the names can go on and on and on! But that’s not why they deserve the governorship of Abyei, here is why??
Twich, Tonj, Apuk, and all those other subsections have truly magnificent and realistic candidates but for the sake of unity (in Warrap) and not to mention in solidarity with their brothers and sisters from Abyei, as responsible politicians how much do the people of warrap really have to loose by having someone from Ngok Abyei to lead them through the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity?
According to my political calculations Mmmm none!!! How much do the people of Warrap, the SPLM IG & South Sudan gain by picking some one from Abyei?
Everything: (1) A neutral and unifying figure, (2) Less headache for the choosing faction (SPLM IG), (3) Gaining political popularity by the choosing faction, (4) More commitment and dedication by the Ngok governor, (5) A sense of solidarity, Patriotism and a bold political statement, (6) Higher chances of uniting the communities and impartial disarmament
Lastly! Remember Cdr. Karbino Kuanyin Bol? He called himself Ma-ngok! Find out why and add more reasons to the checklist, considering the violent turn warrap is taking of late! And the checks keep going on and on, use your political imaginations for a second!
In geopolitics the issue of Abyei could be debatable, but within South Sudan I particularly find it very appalling to hear some one say, “Abyei isn’t part of South Sudan”, and really devastated when a politician or senior citizen for some strange reasons says it too. (Deng Alor was the governor for the whole Bhar gazal region, not so many years ago, can someone remember?)
Since Abyei gets a seat in Warrap’s ministerial positions and nationally in the highest of the security and military offices (although very rare of late), why not gubernatorial seat of Warrap where they are conveniently aligned by the establishment?
According to my political observations, I have also noticed Abyei is one of the very few sub sections that has never lobbied for any government positions whether by individuals or as a collective, South Sudan be fair! Warrap state please try! (Haram alekhum!)
I’d make a genuine political plea to the authoritative faction (SPLM IG) to consider this argument if at all it escaped their political options. For the states stake, it’s “Government of National Unity”, there’s no any other better political gesture.
Mind you Warrap is the most underdeveloped state in the country ironically it’s where most of the current “political establishment” comes from and God knows how many governors they’ve had in the past: besides the worst case scenario they’d be one more looser on the list only this time from a new category too! Abyei!
For those Warrap Politicians and followers who believe Ngok people of Abyei are the establishments’ “enemy” should be smart enough to keep their friends close and their “enemies” even closer. (Resulting into a politicalwin-win either way for the political establishment and the people of Warrap by having a neutral candidate for the governorship of Warrap State!
Read it and pass it on, until it reaches the decision makers table or at least the lobbyists’ minds 😉 Otherwise stay well and stay safe and stay alert!
