Twi Concerned Citizens (TGN): Gen Manyok Barach Must Apologize to Twi Dinka Community

For Immediate Release: Condemnation of the recent baseless and disrespectful utterances from Gen. Manyok Barach that Dr. John Garang and Paramount Chief Ajang Duot “died as Buor.”

Thursday, December 17, 2020 (PW) — It’s becoming apparent that many Twi politicians and high-ranking military leaders find comfort in dividing Twi community, especially with the issue of Greater Bor. They have refused to address the matter through various community’s official channels and are resorting to public events to releasetheir unpopular opinions, even when the occasion does not involve Greater Bor. This psychosis from such leaders is getting to everyone’s nerve and it is fretty much disturbing.

As Twi concerned citizens, we condemn the recent utterances from Manyok Barach in the strongest term possible. Manyok justification that John Garang and Ajang Duot died as Buor and that they should be consulted in in their graves is outrageous and disrespectful to the deceased and the living Twi citizens. Someone needs to remind Manyok that both Garang and Ajang died as Sudanese and Kongor. or did anyone John Garang when Kush/Cush was dropped for South Sudan as well as Kongor for Twic East in case of Ajang Duot.

It must be understood that not every activity by Twi community is to be overshadowed by Greater Bor politics. Events such as weddings and other cultural activities must be void of Greater Bor’s issues and any other talk that do not honor such activities must be avoided at all cost. Because it disrespects our peopleand does not reflect our values. Greater Bor has no discourse in our activities nor our functions. We have not seen in recent days any function where Bor community mentioned Greater Bor instead, they only focus on paan Bor issues.

Our own Twi son correctly stated it that “not every old man is wise.” Not every person is called to duty and for that reason, Twi citizens will not allow their future and the future of coming generations be determined by few cliques in Juba who only cares about their households and not the general Twi population welfare. We are more than determined to empower the likes of chief Manyok Deng Biar and other few leaders who chose to rise above the horizon to defend Twi very existence as westruggle to address issues that are affecting our community.

Together we:

• Empathetically denounce the statement made by Manyok Barach, Bior Ajang, Ajang Ding and any other person who has made deplorable statements in the past.

• Denounce our leaders’ habit of contradicting citizenry popular demands.

• Denounce the intimidation/threatening of concerned citizens in Juba who are worried about where the community is heading.

• Denounced the recent statement made by Bior Ajang, when he ignominiously tells the diaspora leadership to withhold their humanitarian assistance. This is an act of insensitivity towards the vulnerable.

• We denounce the action of few Juba elite who are using their resources to intimidate the opponents of Greater Bor.

We demand that Twi leadership chiefs, Juba and in Diaspora:

• Initiate a process to resolve Greater Bor issue or other misunderstandings within Twi.

• Declare their commitment to helping the internally displaced Twi people

• Come up with the roadmap on how the IDPs could be resettled back to Twi land

• Suspend all the none essential activities to focus on addressing the security and hunger in the coming days and months

• Urgently review the security situation and if needed mobilize Gelweng/Titpaai for possible self-defend against the aggressors/Murle

We call on Twi leaders/elders to demonstrate to Twi community Globally (at home & in diaspora) that they are willing to listen to any popular demand from Twi members and are serious about ending a pattern of impunity and attacks against Twi rights defenders (ACTIVITS) by allowing or facilitating dialogue between our sisterly communities. Lastly, we express our unconditional support to the Popular voices from citizens that take pride in their identity as Twi Dinka.

May God bless Twi Dinka: our Identity, our Pride
