Young Barack Obama in Love: Stories from Obama’s Ex-girlfriends’ Secret Diaries

Obama and Women: the “search for home and identity”

This is a fascinating read from David Maraniss forthcoming book on young Obama (in his 20s) and his methodological relationships, one that is more on philosophy than romance. Since Obama assumed the US Presidency and became my famous neighbor here in Washington DC, I have always struggled, and still do, to pin down his political philosophy without success–euphoria and oratory aside.

This excerpt from the biography offer a rare glimpse into a man many have come to regard for “this and that” beliefs. One main take away though for me as a South Sudanese is the role of education–liberal education–especially in the hows and whys it shaped Obama’s worldview.

I just wonder though…YES WONDER…whether or not Mitchell Obama is reading the excerpt, will buy and read the biography and what she would make of it all: was Obama different by the time she met him or was he the same too distant and too-preoccupied-with-himself-and-his-identity-and-the-world-around-him?
