“I and those who joined me in the bush and fought for more than twenty years, have brought to you CPA in a golden plate. Our mission is accomplished. It is now your turn, especially those who did not have a chance to experience bush life. When the time comes to vote at the referendum, it is your golden choice to determine your fate. Would you like to vote to be second class citizens in your own country? It is absolutely your choice”—-Dr. John Garang speaking to South Sudanese in Rumbek, May 15, 2005, about the just-signed CPA and the right choice to be made by the South Sudanese in the then forthcoming referendum which, unfortunately, he never participated in.
“Something must be rotten in Arabs’ culture that is why Chinese came and left you behind, Russians came and left you behind, Canadians came and left you behind and Americans came and left you behind”—Dr. John Garang commenting on Arab’s violent war of Jihad and unwarranted public incitement and war propaganda.
“Imagine a traveler walking into your cattle camp one evening; you welcome him warmly, give him milk to drink and the best bed to sleep on. He stays with you for an indefinite period and when you tell him that he has overstayed his welcome and was time for him to go, he claims that it was your fault to let him stay so long anyway and demands a share of your cattle: would you allow him to do so?”—Dr. John Garang speaking to a crowd of Dinka herdsmen in 1998 about the arrival and occupation of the Sudan by the Arabs.
“By the end of the six year Interim Period I want Southern Sudan to be earning at least two billion dollars from oil revenues, two billion dollars from tourism, at least six billion dollars from agriculture and other enterprises, so that we have annual revenues of at least ten billion dollars. All this requires peace and stability all over Southern Sudan. Over the six years I want Southern Sudan transformed into the heaven on earth of Africa….” Dr. John Garage De Mabior, June 30, 2005.
“The SPLM is a forum in which citizens shall have right to ask their government representatives where are the hospital and school buildings, and roads you promised to construct? The SPLM is a forum in which citizens have right to report a member of the SPLA to face justice in the court of law if he/she has committed a crime against civilians?” – Dr. John Garang

“Last night I never slept because of the telephone calls…those who have been calling me — starting with the U.N. Secretary-General, yesterday — he gave me an order that I’m ordering you to immediately withdraw from Heglig. I said I’m not under your command…I told him you do not need to order me because I am not under your command. I am a head of state accountable to my people and do not have to be ordered by someone I do not fall under his direct command. I will not withdraw the troops [from Panthou/Heglig]…we withdrew from Abyei. Bashir occupied Abyei and is still there up to today…I told the UN Secretary-General that if you are not moving out with this force of Bashir, we are going to reconsider our position and we are going back to Abyei.” President kiir Mayardit to the UN Chief, Bank Ki Moon, April 12th, 2012)
“An estimated $4 billion are unaccounted for, or simply put, stolen by current and former South Sudan officials as corrupt individuals with close ties to government officials. Most of these have been taken out of the country and deposit in foreign accounts. Some have purchased properties; often paid in cash…the people of South Sudan and the International Community are alarmed by the level of corruption in South Sudan. Many people in South Sudan are suffering, and yet some government officials simply care about themselves. The credibility of our government is on the line…we fought for freedom, justice and equality. Many of our friends died to achieve these objectives. Yet, once we got to power, we forgot what we fought for and began to enrich ourselves at the expense of our people…I am writing to encourage you to return these stolen funds (full or partial) to this account. If funds are returned, the government of the Republic of South Sudan will grant amnesty and will keep your name confidential. I and only one other official will have access to this information.” (President Kiir in an official letter to 75 former and current senior government officials, May 3rd, 2012)
“I did not say the money was stolen neither I did say $4Bn has been stolen. I said the money has been lost somewhere and someone has to account for it. I have written to 75 former and present gov’t officials. This does not mean that these 75 officials are suspects but they have the responsibility. I will still write to some officials whom I had written to them and now claimed to have not received any letter from my office. I will again write to some more officials whom I did not write to them earlier.” (President Kiir, June 13th, 2012)
“If the money is eaten by a few, all the rest will go hungry, and a hungry citizen is an angry citizen. This is as true in the Counties and States as it is in Juba. ..in order to fight this endemic disease in the courts we must have the laws to do so. Until these laws exist, our hands are tied in fighting corruptees, while they betray our commitment to serve and provide services to our long-suffering people.” (Pres. Kiir at Governors Forum, Juba, OCT.,02/2008)

Million congratulations to Thunder and the Tiger for immortalization in words
There had no been good time to see Dr. John when he came to my village around 1980s and I could hear people very excited about his coming. When I asked my father he told me Dr. John Garang was coming to Ngapagok, Tonj East of Warrap State and I happened to trek from a distance of 3 hours just to see the great man like him. And I remember my mother used to sing very good songs praising him. So I personally admire his leadership role.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about SEO VPS. Regards
I wish Garang hasn’t perished that soon. Our Country would be Heaven on Earth in Africa by now.
we missed you John
