Hon. Kuol Bol Ayom Successfully Resolves Greater Bor Youths Differences in Kampala

August 30, 2015 (SSB) — Hon. Kuol Bol Ayom popularly known as Adur-hok-noh, takes the initiative to resolve the differences between the youths of the three counties of Greater Bor in Kampala. The event attended by over four hundred youths was held at Millennium Chambers on the 29 08 2015, in Kampala.
The differences started as a result of naming of Bor community students’ association and has taken over three years without a tangible solution. In 2012, when Garang Amol from Duk County was elected as a chairperson for the three counties of Bor, the Association used to be called Bor Youths’ Students Association (BOYSA). It is alleged that Garang Amol with few executives in his cabinet secretly added to the name of the Association adjective Greater. His argument was to give suitable name for the three counties of Duk, Twic East and Bor Counties by adopting the umbrella name as being used by Bor community in South Sudan.
This secret move triggered the withdrawal of Bor County executives from the Association disagreeing that they had not been consulted on issue pertaining the name of the association. Subsequently, series of consultations were organized on whether the word “Greater” was being used anywhere as a rightful over all name for the three counties of Bor community associations.
The consultation committee was formed and sent to Juba in 2013 to confirm on what the General name for the three counties’ Association should be. This committee was briefed by the consulted elders including Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth (the chairperson for Greater Bor) that any Association that comprises the three counties (Duk, Twic East and Bor counties) deserves the title Greater Bor. Bor as a county has its own associations without “Greater”.
On return of the committee to Kampala, the entire Youths of Greater Bor counties were briefed on the position of the elders who confirmed the adoption of “Greater”. However, the leadership of Bor County insisted that they could not immediately be part of the Greater Bor Association on the ground of their internal differences at the county level. The leadership for Bor County encouraged the two counties of Duk and Twic East to continue with the Association of Greater Bor and promised to join later.
Following the expiry of office term of Garang Amol’s cabinet, Twic East and Duk Counties continued with the Greater Bor Students’ Association minus Bor County. Thil Akuoch from Twic East was elected by the two counties as their new chairperson. Despite the previous promise, Bor County youths were disappointed and decided not to recognize the new leadership of Greater Bor. They based their discontent on the claims of irregularities in naming and elections of the association leadership. Attempts by many older youths to unite the three counties failed.
At the end July this year, Hon. Kuol Bol Ayom who is pursuing his Masters Degree at Cavendish University, Uganda decided to iron out the differences between the three counties. Hon. Adur-hok-noh together with Col. Majier Abdalla Mabior consulted with the elders, youths’ leaders for the counties and the Payams to see how the differences could be resolved. Fortunately, Mr. Ayiik Chol, Nhial Chol and Juach Deng, the leaders of Duk, Bor and Twic East counties respectively showed high enthusiasm in the reunification of the three counties under the general name “Greater Bor”.
In his address to the Greater Bor Community in Kampala, Hon. Kuol Bol of Jonglei state legislative Assembly for constituency number 27 of Bor County stresses that “Unity is a demanding spirit that we must embrace to overcome all sorts of challenges. Nothing can be achieved in division. Any division whether sectarian, regional, sectional or clannish is a negative motive that drains us off the spirit of peaceful co-existence and the energies to concentrate on developmental programs”.
Hon. Adur-hok-noh also advises the Greater Bor students to abstain from unnecessary politics such as writing in social media that are damaging to the reputations. The State MP asks the youths to channel their commitment and energies toward studies so as to develop positives thinking as a mechanism for development. Mr. Bol reminds the youth of Greater Bor about the role played by their chiefs in the unification of Greater Bor. He encourages the youths to take the exemplary legacies and carry them forward in good faith to maintain the values and the unity of the people of Greater Bor.
Col. Majier Abdalla Mabior who plays central role in the unification process advises the Youths to embrace unity in all aspects of lives. Mr. Majier promises that he will work closely with the newly formed Electoral Committee to ensure that a unifying leadership of Greater Bor Youth is formed without difficulties.
Thil Akuoch whose terms in office expired dissolves his cabinets and forms the electoral committee that will conduct inclusive elections for the Greater Bor Youths Students’ Association (GBOYSA) in Kampala. The unification gathering was attended by many elders who express their happiness to the youths for readily accepting their advices.
The general assembly for the reunification was also blessed by the Presence of His Lordship Bishop Hillary Garang Deng Aweer of Renk Diocese. Bishops Akurdit and Isaac Deu peeped in briefly for greetings. His Lordship Hillary admits that the division among the community affects the churches since the very community members form the church congregation. He encourages the youth to embrace peace tightly and urges them to adhere to the biblical principle of “peace makers shall be called children of God”. His Lordship closed the happy long day with prayers.
