Having handled various projects successfully within the country for the last nine years, the Skol Building Contractors ltd is eying the newly born state- South Sudan as a new market.

The company is leveraged on modern construction equipment and desirable personnel.

“We have to search avenues for new markets everyday…and I am told Darfur could soon be a construction site for many of us in the neighbouring countries,” says Mr Vincent Peter, a business and self-entrepreneur who manages the company.

Skol is a reputed name in the Civil Works Industry in Tanzania, with a turnover of about Sh10 billion per year. It has expertise in civil works, including general construction of rigid and flexible pavements for roads or highways and production of construction materials and reinforced earth and earthwork.

According to Mr Peter, the company has had a number of successful projects since it was established in 2002 as a Limited Company.

He says, the company, is a civil engineering contractor registered with the Contractors Registration Board under Class ONE (1), it has outshined several other small companies in construction sector, due to its financial capability, experience and committed human capital. In the recently concluded Top 100 medium sized survey- the brainchild of audit firm KPMG and The Citizen, the company emerged the 57th.

However, the manager believes to swiftly rank high in the coming survey in the near future.

Mr Peter says that the survey was professionally run and commends organisers, adding that the survey was a testimony that there are a number of indigenous construction companies, whose contributions are significant to the national economy.

However, he further said that both the government and the public should be patriotic by hiring local companies rather than giving all the tenders to foreign companies.

“As matter of fact, we are striving to be the best in this industry…but this is not possible if we don’t get tenders from our fellow Tanzanians.”

Skol’s head office is located in a prestigious, newly constructed, and centrally air-conditioned building in the heart of Dar es Salaam city with around 2.752 acres of land.

Skol’s administrative office is located at a prime location operating from Sinza Shekilango Road Adjacent to Africa Sana, in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam.

Employing about 400 direct and indirect workers, the firm is equipped with modern office equipment, communication facilities, staff field vehicles and other facilities to provide necessary logistics to back up professional staff on site.
